With no spring and summer basketball going on we wanted to do a deep dive into the prospects across the state by reviewing their season long highlight tapes and giving our evaluation of their strengths as a prospect along with projected college level. Here is our Film Room: 2021 Chicago West Suburbs Prospects Pt 1!

[player_tooltip player_id="821824" first="Caleb" last="Corro"] (St. Patrick’s)

Corro is a 6’0” point guard that really sees the floor in the half court. Feel passing that can dish the rock with either hand and does it with a little flair at times. Crisp ball handler that sets up his shooting off the bounce. Hard one dribble pull up game and is a crafty shot maker from 15 feet in. Capable three point shooter off the catch. High level small college prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13554936/5e78d67c57982217a82fae7f

[player_tooltip player_id="821735" first="Ben" last="Schwieger"] (Waubonsie Valley)

This is a long highlight tape, but excellently broken down by skill. Schwieger is one of the top wings in the 2021 class. Thin and wiry frame at about 6’5”. He has good shot prep when spotting up and does a nice job of finding the weak spot in the D to get his shot off. Also has a crisp one dribble pull up game. Mixes in runners as well. On his perimeter jumper the motion is free and easy although it does start a little low at times. Major bounce out of Schwieger which isn’t surprising considering his volleyball history. Explodes at the rim for dunks and can also finish with creative layups. Did a nice job on lobs either dunking it or tipping in the pass for two points. Defensively he displayed that athleticism blocking shots and using his length aggressively getting in passing lanes. Quick handles in the open floor and is a quality passer. Hits cutters consistently. Also is good at throwing crisp passes and then cutting to find an open spot. As a rebounder showed the ability to read where the ball was coming off the rim crashing from the perimeter and has a quick second jump. Mid-major plus prospect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fRsvz0Zss4&feature=youtu.be

Josh Smith (OPRF)

Smith is a long armed combo guard that can play both on and off the ball. Showcases his slick passing with the ability to find teammates. Throws strong passes in traffic with either hand. As a scorer he displayed some athleticism with tough layups and can shoot it from three. Sound shooting stroke with a high release point on his jumper. Low-major plus/mid-major prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12059144/5e75320c32dcb217780f45df

Luke Fehrenbacher (Batavia)

This 5’9” combo guard has good mechanics on his jump shot. At times it can get a little long, but overall sound shot. Relocates well finding weak spots in the defense to get his shot off. Decent runner game and is a solid passer. Small college prospect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmGzPW4dJNk&feature=youtu.be

[player_tooltip player_id="995977" first="Qati" last="Dalipi"] (Westmont)

Dalipi is a 6’5” 230 pound wide bodied power forward. He has touch around the hoop and is very effective using hook shots. Flashes in the mid-range for jumpers where he was effective. Below average athletically. He is a small college prospect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wXpQXVOnOk&feature=emb_title

[player_tooltip player_id="569460" first="Justin" last="Cross"] (OPRF – Post Grad)

Cross is a 6’7” power forward that announced during the high school season that he will do a post grad year. He ultimately decided that year would be at Woodstock Academy. The prep year will allow him to add strength and continue to improve his game. There are a lot of intriguing tools with his angular lefty. He can take it off the glass on the defensive end and push it in the open floor. In the half court he is most effective in the mid-range scoring with a couple quick dribbles, hitting a mid-range jumper, or finding teammates with quick passes. Does a nice job of using his length on the defensive end. Definitely could see him as a D1 prospect with a year of prep.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10411008/5e729015e9852419ac83b96b

[player_tooltip player_id="647237" first="Connor" last="Davis"] (Neuqua Valley)

Davis is a strong wing with decent size. He is most known for his shooting which was shown in this video. He is a plus threat off the catch that can hit a one dribble pull up as well. Improved as a driver during his junior year. He does a nice job of using spins in the lane along with nifty finishes to convert at the rim. Solid wing rebounder and competes defensively. Average athlete so he will never probably be an elite defender, but he certainly tries on that end. Chance to develop into a D2 player as a senior.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6l8E5GWRQA&feature=youtu.be

[player_tooltip player_id="921056" first="Trayton" last="Trice"] (Romeoville)

Trice was an interesting tape to watch. Listed at 6’5” 235 pounds he is a wide bodied post, but has good mobility. Excellent body positioning allows him to score in the paint with his power, touch, and ability to catch passes in traffic. Mauler on the glass grabbing them in traffic. Even flashed a little as a spot up shooter hitting several threes. One to watch moving forward. Could be worth consideration at the D2 level.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12125899/5e77dde457982217a82f90ee

Rashaad Trice (OPRF)

Trice is a tough and undersized shooting guard. Scrappy defender that rebounds well for his position. Offensively he is a solid spot up shooter capable of knocking down shots off the catch. Projects as a D3/NAIA prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12111339/5e98c3a3f31ca10338885cc9

[player_tooltip player_id="920966" first="Tyler" last="Van Eekeren"] (Benet)

The Benet wing is a 6’5” small forward that is a very high academic prospect. What does he hang his hat on? He is a plus shooter that has a quick release. Moves well without the ball to get open for shots off the catch. He is a solid athlete that can put it on the deck a little including strong rip throughs to the basket. Defensively he is tough, gritty, and is very smart. He always seems to be in the right spot to get a steal or block. D2 programs need to be monitoring him.
