Recruiting Report – Evan Wieker (2020)

<p>If you are going to transition into a new, tougher league it always helps to have a talent like 6-foot-4 <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/evan-wieker/">Evan Wieker</a> of STMA.  The Knights have struggled but Evan has produced consistently against some of the state's best teams. </p> <p>A quality 25 point against Wayzata, 30 against Buffalo, these have been some recent outputs of Wieker who is an explosive 6-foto-4 combo forward scoring 14-15 a contest.  </p> <p>"The year has been going pretty well considering that the wins haven’t been in our favor," Wieker told Prep Hoops.  "I think we have surprised other people and ourselves on how we can play with some of the best teams in the state."</p> <p>STMA is on a losing streak but they have played close games with the best teams in Section 8AAAA.  STMA feels they can still put things together and earn a state bid. </p> <p>"My team goal is to get to state," Wieker explained.  "We have had to get used to playing without Peyton McLean, he’s a key player for us, with his ACL tear we were set back a bit, but I know we still have what it takes to get to state.</p> <p>"As for myself I just want to have fun! I’m coming up on my last few high school games and I’m trying to enjoy it as much as possible."</p> <p>It is that time of year where guys are starting to realize their high school careers are nearly over.  It's the time where they savor the memories and take nothing for granted. </p> <p>"For me the things that stand out most are all the things off the court. The pasta feeds and getting food before games with my buddies is what I know I’ll miss most."</p> <p>Basketball won't be over for Evan though.  He has the physical tools and multi-position tools to move on and play college basketball. </p> <p>"I have been to St. John’s, Augsburg, St. Olaf and I’ve been talking to many NAIA schools as well as a few Juco schools," Evan said. "Visit wise I’ve gone to St. John’s, Augsburg, Hamline, St. Olaf, St. Thomas and I’m heading to Gustavus soon."</p> <p>When it comes to basketball at the highest level Evan has a favorite team from out west that he's grown up watching, a team that plays in the Staples Center!  As far as his hoops influence though, that comes from inside the home.</p> <p>"Growing up I was always a Clippers fan. I loved watching lob city with Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan.</p> <p>"My dad has helped me grow more than anybody in my basketball career. He has always been there to help me out when I need it, and he is always the one let me know when I do things well and when I need to do things better.</p> <p>"I’m extremely lucky to have someone like him to have helped me throughout my career. Not many kids are that lucky."</p> <p>No they are not.  Tonight, Evan's father gets to see his son and the rest of the Knights play at Hopkins hoping to end a double figure string of losses.  And win or loss they will enjoy it. </p>
