Ten Players to Watch!
Chase Arend of Bridgewater-Emery (Sr). Because the team is a game under .500 his name has gone a bit under the radar but 5-foot-11 senior guard Chase Arend is having a great year. Chase is coming off of a 28 point, 10 assist game beating Gayville-Volin. Few guys do as much for their team as Chase. He’s averaging 20 points, 8 boards, and six assists a contest
Caden Casey of St. Thomas More (Sr). In an eight day span the Cavs will be taking on SF O’Gorman, Red Cloud, and Sioux Falls Christian in a massive 1 vs 2 match-up. In the past week Casey had 21 against SFOG and 27 versus Red Cloud plus he continues to bring that two way energy.
Kalen Garry of De Smet (Soph). The 6-foot-2 sophomore just keeps finding ways to make fans around the state say wow. They went wow when he hit six threes and scored 30 to knock off the #1 Viborg-Hurley squad, he had 25 and 9 in less than 20 minutes against Castlewood, and he led his team to a huge win over Wolsey-Wessington.
Jackson Isakson of Aberdeen Christian (Fr). Have time to learn about a freshman? Excellent. Jackson Isakson started the season really hot, hit a couple rocky spots, but earlier in the week the 6-foot-3 wing scored a career high 22 points scoring on 9 of 12 shots. The more he grows the better this team is going to be.
Connor Libis of Dell Rapids St Mary (Jr). You want to see a guy play with pace? Connor will show you pace. And he’s also a great example for smaller guards to learn how to get to space. It’s all about speed and getting up the floor before a defense can react. Sound simple? It’s not. It’s about being in good shape and knowing how to playmake in a quick way while recognizing where the defense is and where they will be.
Collin Rentz of Dell Rapids (Jr). Prep Hoops loves guys that impact the game on every possession. Collin Rentz impacts the game on every possession. Rentz only takes ten shots a game but still has a team high 14 point per game total plus he leads the team in assists at 4-5 a contest.
Andrew Rohrbach of Aberdeen Christian (Sr). We’ve talked about some guys that do some of everything, Andrew Rohrbach is doing a ton of everything. And the Knights are 16-2. Andrew is a 42 percent three-pointer shooter who is selective in his attempts leading to 18.5 points, eight boards, and 7.5 assists a game.
Nick Sayler of White River (Sr). What I’ve learned about Nick Sayler is that his all around basketball ability on the court, it extends off the floor. High academic marks, music, academic competitions, and triple number numbers at times Sayler does it all. A perfect lead by example guy.
Shane Anderson of Viborg-Hurley (Sr). The Cougars are winning games with balance. Talent of course helps but a balance of talent is better. Senior Shane Anderson has upped his scoring output as of late plus he’s a poster boy for being three-sport standout (wideout playmaker in football, wing in hoops, track & field athlete).
Reggie Slaba of Hanson (Sr). Slaba has led Hanson to a memorable year so far and he just created an even bigger memory knocking out eight threes and scoring 47 of his team’s 81 points in a win over MVP.
