South Spencer
South Spencer is having a great season, 12-2 so far. They only two losses came in the second week of the season and has since won 11 straight. They are also coming up on a couple games where they need to prove themselves against Heritage Hills and Southridge. But, I think it is within reason that they win most of their remaining games and have a legit shot to get out of their Sectional. They already have wins over Crawford County, North Harrison, and Forest Park. Jace Kelly and that junior core are really good.
Wapahani
The trio of Frankton, Lapel, and Wapahani have been really good for a long time but this might be the first time in a while Wapahani is the best team of them. They are 11-3 and while their schedule hasn’t been very difficult overall, they have some key wins over Frankton and Lapel already. They have Delta and Shenandoah still to finish out the year but this is a team that is 4-0 against Sectional opponents and 6-0 against their own class. Watch out.
Milan
Milan has been a team that among coaches that have seen them or played against them, have said they are really sneaky good. They are just 9-9 on the year but 5 of those losses came at the beginning of the year after starting out 1-5. They are 8-4 since with wins over Batesville, Evansville Harrison, and Bedford North Lawrence. For a 2A team, they have a really good look for a team .500 or better and they are in Sectional 44 who really only has South Decatur in it to worry about at the top. Some luck, and some improvements could position them well late in the year.
Northeastern
Northeastern is 11-4 on the season. They have wins over North Putnam, Eastern Greene, and Blue River Valley. They have some losses against really good teams including Shenandoah, Delta, Greenwood Christian, and Monroe Central. All but Monroe Central are rated 57th or better in Sagarin. The end to their season is relatively easier than the first half with only Connersville the big team remaining. Northeastern is in the same Sectional as Shenandoah so it won’t be easy but they are clearly the second best team and they played Shenandoah well enough to have a shot.
