Wisconsin Top 250 Expo All-Event Teams
First team:
Guard: Justin Brookens, Vincent High School, Class of 2017
Guarding Brookens is about as easy as scaling Mount Everest when you’ve never climbed a mountain before. Both Brookens and Everest will make you look foolish. He shows ankles no mercy with his dizzying handles. His ball skills allow him to create plenty of separation for his silky jump shot.
Guard: William Mahoney, Appleton West, Class of 2019
Mahoney was a magnet to the ball during 5 on 5 scrimmages. He possesses excellent quickness and lateral movement. When coupled with his high basketball awareness, Mahoney forced plenty of turnovers by jumping into passing lanes. His effort earned him more rebounds than his size would predict. Mahoney also has a beautiful soft midrange shot and proved to be a capable finisher at the hoop.
Forward: Jontae Martin, Class of 2019
You are drawn to Martin naturally by his swagger. He’s got more than enough game to back up how he carries himself. When he wants to do something on the court he’s going to do it whether you like it or not. Martin is a dangerous scorer with his sweet pull up jumper and his outstanding body control and ball skills at the rim.
Forward: Tyree Ellis, Milwaukee Washington, Class of 2017
Ellis made a statement early on at the expo by rocking the gym with a thunderous throw down in 2 on 2 drills. He’s an explosive high flying player who instils fear in basketball rims whenever he steps on the court. While his dunking makes him standout, he’s a complete player capable of taking it coast to coast and finishing the break with a finger roll. Ellis is an asset on the defensive end and makes the opposition work for every shot.
Forward/Center: Taejuan Johnson, Homestead, Class of 2017
Freak athlete who excels on both ends of the ball. May or may not own a timeshare above the rim with all the time he spends up there. Will burn you on fast breaks with his athleticism. Showed good finishing ability at the bucket and a hunger to get to the rack. Wreaks havoc on the defensive end as a shot blocker and had one of the most memorable plays of the day on a Lebronesque chase down block.
Second Team:
Guard: Tre’ Williams, Westosha Central, Class of 2017
Williams has an arsenal of offensive skills that make him virtually un-guardable if he’s on. His versatility as a great passer, shifty ball handler and impressive shooter makes him invaluable on the offensive end. He obviously did well in art class because he possesses real crafty finishing abilities around the hoop.
Guard: Evan Tillung, Rice Lake, Class of 2018
Tillung initially stood out during drills due to his energy and intensity. He was a water bug on the court with his quick footwork and shutdown defense. Tillung is a lead by example guy and a team captain caliber player. He’s a complete player who leaves it all on the court.
Guard: Jaheim Ingram, Lafollete High School, Class of 2019
A very talented sophomore who can become a scholarship player if he continues his play. A natural ball handler who will make you look silly in the open court. Ingram is a great all-around defender who isn’t afraid to meet you at the rim. While he’s a confident defender, Ingram is an equally good finisher when cutting through the lane. Scary thing is that he has plenty of time to get even better.
Forward: Tanner Brandt, Wisconsin Dells, Class of 2018
What does a balloon and Brandt have in common? They both float effortlessly in the air. He can play above the rim with ease and can also stretch the defense with a sound outside shot. His soft touch around the rim compliments his athleticism and leaping ability well.
Forward: Jacob Kakkak, Gresham, Class of 2017
One of the sweetest surprises of the expo. Despite Kakkak’s size, he had some of the best finesse in the gym. He’s a multifaceted offensive threat because of his great interior finishing ability and his complimentary midrange jumper. Likely a double double machine.
Honorable Mention: Darryl Brooks (Dominican), Cam Flowers (West Band West), Noah Hanson (Eau Claire North), Randy Johnson (Germantown HS), Jordan McJimpsey (Nicolet High), Kieran Rowe (Franklin High School)
