There was everything you could ask for in Tuesday’s slate of games. Marquee matchups across the state, top players going at it in position battles and also my favorite -- a few upsets. There were plenty of standouts on Tuesday and what we continue to see is new names emerging on this last for big days so it is only right we highlight them. Here are a few standout performances on the day that was too good to pass up on.

[player_tooltip player_id="990066" first="Tim" last="Broom"] – Douglas County

Douglas County is a team that has gotten off to a very good start. They have a two out of state losses and one to one of the better teams in the state but have an impressive resume with some good wins. Their most consistent player has been senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="990066" first="Tim" last="Broom"] who has been able to score and get others involved but has also shown that he is the de facto no. 1 when all things are considered and will take over when needed. In Douglas County’s big win over Chatfield, he took over as he had a big 25 points on 12-16 shooting from the field. What was different about this game was the fact that he did not hit a 3-pointer in the game but got it in other ways while also coming up with six rebounds, six assists and also seven steals. He is a stock booster worth watching.

[player_tooltip player_id="915292" first="Hezekiah" last="Swanson"] – Overland

Albeit that Overland lost by two points to Chaparral who has looked to have found a rhythm as of late one of the standouts in this game was [player_tooltip player_id="915292" first="Hezekiah" last="Swanson"]. Swanson was injured this summer and may have possibly rushed back a bit but seemed to prove doubters wrong in one of the better guard battles that we have seen this year. He is starting to get back up to speed a bit and look more like himself, one of the top overall guards in the state and a floor general that understands how to win. He put up 17 points in the game while showcasing that he could shoot the ball, get to the free-throw line and also still get his teammates involved. His 17 points were needed as it kept his team in the game and gave them a chance to win but came up short. Regardless, it was great to see him put together arguably his best game of the season in a game that mattered.

[player_tooltip player_id="796267" first="Kobe" last="Sanders"] – Chaparral

In what was deemed the game of the night we knew who it would come down to, to deliver the win and he did not disappoint. Sanders was able to affect the game as only he knows how. The signature pull-up jumper, breaking a defender down to get to the rim and either finishing or the no-look pass to the open teammate. He willed his team to victory as he put up 25 points (11 in the 4thquarter) in the game with some big-time shots. He dissected the defense all night, got off to a good start and with the game on the line was able to close Overland out. He is the top point guard in the state and one thing about him is he is going to show up every single night and is not afraid to carry the load in big games either.

[player_tooltip player_id="916955" first="Donta" last="Dawson"] – Harrison

Things have been quiet on his front to begin the season, unsure why as he is still helping his team win games as they are off to a 6-1 start and he is up to his usual shenanigans. He is putting up 21 points and 8.6 rebounds a game and on Tuesday saw those numbers jump up a bit as he had another breakout game in which his play secured another large victory. Dawson went for 27 points on 9-14 shooting from the field. He only knocked down one 3-pointer but got inside and attacked the basket for his points and Mesa Ridge had no choice but to foul him which proved ineffective as he went 8-8 from the charity stripe. He also had four steals in the game and turned a couple of those into baskets so he had another complete game and showcased what makes him one of the best overall players in his class.

[player_tooltip player_id="918928" first="Andrew" last="Scott"] – Silver Creek

Silver Creek had an upset win over Centaurus on Tuesday and it was behind the play of their 6-4 wing [player_tooltip player_id="918928" first="Andrew" last="Scott"]. Scott has gotten off to a great start to the season as he is finding his own and getting into the swing of things as he went into Tuesday’s game averaging 8.5 points a game on the season. But with a surprise blowout game where he put up 29 points on the night against one of the better teams, he will see those averages rise. He knocked down three 3-pointers but made Centaurus pay inside where he got himself going. He put himself in positions to score stayed aggressive through the night and the Raptors made sure to ride their sophomore who has shown promise and flashes at times. Big stock boosting day for him.

Jaxon Smith – Discovery Canyon

Jaxon Smith caught fire for Discovery Canyon on Tuesday evening as he knocked down four shots from beyond the arc to keep the defense on their feet. He opened up the defense with his jump shot which got teammates open for shots of their own. He also had a few finishes at the rim to make it a bit more difficult for Woodland Park to defend him on the night. If he keeps up with this outside touch as well as his teammates attacking inside as well, their inside-out approach will make it difficult for opposing teams to defend all night. Good day for him.

[player_tooltip player_id="759274" first="Tayt" last="Chacon"] – University

Sophomore sensation [player_tooltip player_id="759274" first="Tayt" last="Chacon"] continues to be a versatile force for University as he provides outside shooting on a team that does not take many 3-pointers as well as their consistent scoring threat inside as well. On Tuesday against Prospect Ridge Academy he made sure to mix it up. He provided the Bulldogs with a mixture of inside-out scoring as he finished with a game-high 18 points. He shoots the ball well and also finishes at the rim using his size and strength. He is putting up 20 points a game on a team that only has one loss on the season and has been a player that has stood out early on. If he continues to have these types of games and also puts them together against the top teams that they play as well he will jump up our rankings board and put himself in the conversation as one of the best in his class.
