On Monday evening, Legend traveled to Columbine for a non conference match up after the break. It was a entertaining game overall, below we take a look at how the game unfolded and who stood out for each team. Columbine entered the night after coming off a tough loss Saturday against a very good Rangeivew team. This was Legends first game back since ending the Cherry Creek Holiday Classic tournament with a loss against Mountain Vista. In the end, Columbine would pull away in the fourth quarter to secure the win against Legend on Monday.

First Half Recap & Player Takeaways:

This was a very entertaining game from tip to finish, with both teams hitting key shots throughout the game. Justin Lohrenz would carry the way for Columbine in the first quarter, scoring eight of his 16 points to start the game. Braden Boley of Legend would hit a monster three-pointer while getting fouled, and would complete the four point play to tie the game at 12 in the first quarter with three minutes left. He finished with six points in the game, all in the first. The end of the first would finish with the Rebels leading Legend 17-14. Both teams would put up big second quarters, with several players making big time shots. Sean Evans for Legend would hit a big three-pointer to open up the second quarter, he would hit several huge shots throughout the game. He finished the night with 15 points, connecting on four three-pointers. For Columbine, it was Garrett Rogers who had a monster game and was the difference all night long. He would hit two big threes in the second quarter, he finished with 24 points on the night. He has nice range on his shot and was able to pull up from mid-range after he knocked down a couple from keep, he was very impressive all game. Both teams would enter half tied 37-37, Garrett had 14 at half and Luke O'Brien would finish with 13. For Legend, Tanner Lamb led the way at half with nine of his 12 points coming in the first half.

Second Half Recap:

Coming out of half tied at 37, Legend would hit two big threes, one by Cam LeVan and the other by Tanner Lamb to give them a 42-37 lead over Columbine. Columbine would respond with Luke in the post against a smaller guard and then Garrett hitting another timely three for the Rebels, followed by Luke going to work on the offensive boards, scoring the bucket and getting fouled. Luke would go thirteen of fifteen from the foul-line on the night, going eight for eight in the fourth. Columbine would take a 54-50 lead into the fourth quarter, both teams would trade three-pointers in the opening minutes of the fourth. Tristan Alward would hit the one for the Rebels to give them the 57-50 lead, but Sean Evans would answer with a big three to keep Legend close at 57-53. It was a six point game, 63-57 with the Rebels up with four minutes to go and Sean would hit another monster three to keep them within striking distance at 63-60. Columbine would slowly pull away from the foul-line, going twelve of sixteen in the fourth. Legend would have four different players score in double figures on the night, with Cam leading the way with 16, Sean finishing with 15, and Garrett Siebert adding 14. Luke would lead the way for Columbine in scoring with 28 on the night, followed by 24 from Garrett and 16 out of Justin in the 77-69 home victory.

Player of the Game:

Columbine - Garrett Rogers (Jr.) - Garrett came into the night averaging: 8.3 PPG, 3.6 APG, 1.7 RPG, 1.4 SPG to begin the season for the Rebels. He had a great game Saturday against Rangeview, he scored 17 points, connecting on five of five from long distance. Garrett would follow that performance up with an even better one on Monday night, scoring a season high 24 points, and effecting the game in every way. After hitting a few threes, he would take his defender off the dribble for the nice mid-range shot, as well as cutting well without the ball. He does a nice job of relocating and finding the open spot on the perimeter, and is ready to shoot when the kick out comes his way. He is shooting 12/24 on the year from behind the arc, his 8.3 PPG is second on the team, it will be fun to see how he continues his strong play going forward.

Next Games:

Castle View @ Columbine 1/8 7 P.M.

Ralston Valley @ Legend 1/8 7 P.M.
