Top Assist-men through the holiday break: 5A dishers

We are already at the holiday break and through the first month of the season. There have been some big-time performances throughout the state. Prep Hoops Colorado has done our best to get out to as many games as we can and have seen plenty of these players this season. We have already discussed some of the top scorers before the break but now we focus on some of the top assist-men in the state. If you are not already a subscriber, use the promo code “Dev30” for 30% off of your first billing cycle and start the new year off with a bang.

Quis Davis – Denver East

We saw him a couple of times this summer and what was apparent from the sophomore guard was the poise and IQ to understand where all of his players are going to be and put them in the best positions to score. East is still undefeated on the season and the point guard position is where the Angels had to fill this season. Their young guard has stood out and done all that is asked and more as he is up to 6.9 assists a game. He is going to be able to keep this up for the year with the way that the Angels have been blowing teams out and he has two teammates on his team that are in the top five scorers on his team with other big-time scorers on the team as well. This is sustainable and will only have his confidence riding high as he gets ready for league play.

Trevor Baskin – Pomona

The state’s leading scorer is also in the top 5 for assists a game. Let’s just think about that. What Baskin is doing over at Pomona is unheard of as he is having one of the best seasons of anyone in the state. He also will make the list as one of the state's top rebounders as well. He is a darkhorse candidate for Mr. Basketball with stats alone and if Pomona can get some more wins to have a legitimate chance. He does it all for the Panthers and while they surely enjoy the 29 points a game that he puts up a game so far, I am sure they welcome the 6.6 assists a game as well.

Marcus Labonde – Fruita Monument

Fruita Monument is having a so-so season as they sit at just about even for the season. They are an entertaining bunch as they put up 61 points a game and a player that has attributed for more than half of those points is their senior guard who is putting up 17 points and 6.4 assists a game as well. He is a player that they are making sure to give the ball and get out of his way as he operates. They will continue to ride their senior guard as he puts his teammates in positions to score as well as get his own when needed.

Zion Ruckard – Eaglecrest

Ruckard is my pick for the standout surprise player in 5A going into the break and it hasn’t been close. What he has been able to do on one of the best teams in the state and as of right now looking like their best player has been impressive. He is leading the 7-1 Raptors at 17.8 points a game but he has also been able to get his big-time players involved around him as well and has been setting them up for highlight dunks, open 3-pointers and more. Ruckard has been able to blow by every player that has been in front of him and if he doesn’t score he is dishing it off to the open man as his 5.5 assists a game is amongst the top in all of 5A.

Quentin Rock – Smoky Hill

Rock is one of the most polished players in the entire state as he can shoot the ball, finish through traffic and also lock up on the defensive end but what he is best at is leading the team as the primary ball-handler and also best passer. Rock is undoubtedly one of the state’s best passers and what is different than most players is the purpose. He sets up the defense and makes them pay with an easy basket or he is going to find one of his other scorers that is ready to feast on his no-look passes. He is up to five assists a game which is a bit lower than what he is used to. The best part is he is not just a passer and can hurt you in different ways and I fully expect him to average over five a game by seasons end.
