Pangos: Sunday Standouts

The Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp continued in La Grange on Sunday. It concluded with the Top 60 and Top 30 Games. Here we break down the standout performers from Sunday at the camp!

PF Donaven Younger (Bolingbrook – 2023)

It was a breakout weekend for Younger. This was our first time checking out the Bolingbrook 6’7” power forward and we came away extremely impressed. Younger is a rangy left handed four man that was excellent in transition. He runs the floor with the fluidity of a guard. He also can handle it in the open floor with ease. Plays above the rim with thunderous jams. Tons of projectability early on!

PF AJ Casey (Tinley Park – 2022)

Casey missed Saturday’s action as he was on a college visit. Sunday in two regular games and the top 30 game he more than lived up to his billing as the top sophomore in the state. Scored with ease around the hoop flushing two jams to open the day. Runs the floor so easy and was effective as a finisher on multiple lobs. The area he has greatly improved is the consistency on his jump shot. Casey connected on triples throughout the day both off the catch and creating for himself on pull ups. Seems much more confident shooting the ball from the perimeter. Did a nice job on the glass snatching rebounds. Shot blocking presence. No doubt high-major target.

PF Robbie Avila (Oak Forest – 2022)

Avila is among the best post prospects in the sophomore class in Illinois. He showed why at Pangos. At 6’8” the post is a plus shooter from mid-range and three being able to stretch the floor well for a big man. He is smooth getting up and down the court in transition. Overall has a high skill level and finishes well around the cup with efficiency.

SG James Qualley (Stevenson – 2022)

Qualley was an absolute sniper shooting the rock! Did it in both the all-star game and morning game. Crisp release with consistent accuracy. He has clean mechanics and lets it fly off the catch like he knows it is going in.

PF Nigel Hylton (Lake Forest Academy – 2022)

Hylton was the player that made the biggest impression on us with his play at the camp. In our first eval of him at the event he did enough to probably earn himself a spot in the top 5 in the next 2022 update. The Canadian is a long and wiry power forward with broad shoulders. Rebounds very well with his quickness around the hoop and is efficient with his touches. The area he surprised was his three point shooting as he consistently drilled triples in bunches with a feathery touch. Covers ground defensively with his mobility and length.

PG Jaylen Drane (Simeon – 2022)

Drane had all the tricks in his bag on Sunday. His ball handling has made strides since we last saw him in July. Crisp change of direction and has the ball on a string. The sophomore at times can over dribble a bit, but he is so effective off the bounce scoring. Put combination moves together to win off the bounce throughout the day getting to the rim at a high rate. In the top 30 game he won co-MVP honors for his play. Lived in the lane where he either finished or made sound decisions as a passer. I think that was the area we came away most impressed with was his improved decision making as a distributor. Also drilled an array of key threes including several pull ups.

SG JayQuan Adams (Simeon – 2022)

Adams didn’t pop to us until we saw him in the top 60 game. The 6’4” shooting guard has size for position along with big time bounce. He put down a few huge dunks and was acrobatic finishing around the hoop. Looked to be a decent shooter as well.

C Lidell Miller (Morgan Park – 2023)

Miller looks more like an offensive tackle than basketball player, but this 6’6” center went for 10 points and 11 rebounds in the top 60 game. Wide bodied five man that has strong hands catching passes in traffic and moves well for his size. Physical rebounder.

PG Trey Pettigrew (Fenwick – 2022)

Pettigrew was on point again with his pull up game. The Fenwick lead guard is a shot maker that is a savant around ball screens. Turns the corner and pulls up with elevation off the floor to drill the jumper time after time. Also has creativity and burst off the dribble getting to the hoop for acrobatic layups.

PG Marcus Pigram (Whitney Young – 2023)

Pigram was another player we didn’t remember from the first three games of the event, but in the top 30 game he broke out. The Whitney Young point guard has good length and plays bigger than his height because of that. Got out in transition for scores and was a high level passer in traffic!

F Xavier Amos (Whitney Young – 2022)

Amos is one of the more physically impressive prospects we saw over the weekend. The 6’7” power forward has tremendous strength and athleticism. The Dolphins sophomore was active on the glass for second chance opportunities using his quickness to get put backs. Mid-range shot is an area he showed well offensively.

PF Javonte Taylor (Morgan Park – 2023)

Taylor without question separated himself from the pack as the top freshman in the state of Illinois. At 6’7” the face up four man made a couple of standout plays in the top 30 game. One he slashed crossing the floor and then had a nifty layup. Converted another scoop shot off the bounce. Capable three point shooter as well with a feathery touch. At times settles for it too much. All the physical tools are there for him to be a big time prospect!

PF Omaha Biliew (Dowling Catholic, IA – 2023)

Biliew was named the MVP of the camp and there was no question that he deserved it. He was the best prospect at the camp and by a pretty sizeable margin. The Iowa 6’7” four man has such a versatile game. He handles it extremely well and is a threat to score from anywhere on the court. Biliew showcased that in the Top 30 game where he was dominant in stretches with his combination of strength in the paint and feathery jump shot from three. Hit tough turnaround fadeaways and hook shots inside. Monster on the glass and protecting the rim. Potential #1 overall nationally.

SF Dallas Bear (Cedar Falls, IA – 2023)

Bear is a 6’5” sharp shooting wing from Iowa. Long and rangy prospect that has projectability. Can shoot it from deep, but when defenders close hard on him he goes by them for runners in the paint.

SF Ty Rodgers (Grand Blanc, MI – 2022)

Rodgers didn’t play in the top 30 game, but he more than proved he was among the premier prospects at the event. Powerful wing with size that is super explosive on drives to the hoop. One of his best moves on the day was when he shook his man on a shot fake then went past him for a floater. Threw down several monster dunks. Love his combination of strength and athleticism!

SF Jasen Green (Millard North, NE – 2022)

Green was awesome in the top 30 game earning co-MVP honors. He stands at 6’7” with a strong and athletic frame. The well-built wing used his strength inside on hook shots and power drives, but it was his jump shooting that separated him. He was money all day long with his three point shot drilling threes over and over. Hit them off the catch, pulling up, and step backs. Breakout weekend for him!
