St Bernard Fall League Week 4

<p>St Bernard has played host to an entertaining and competitive fall league each Saturday since Sept 16. After taking a break the weekend of Sept. 28, the league started back up in Oct with some solid basketball.</p> <p>This past Saturday, the league entered its fourth week. Here’s a look at some of the standouts that I saw that day.</p> <p><strong>1. Damion McDowell – St Bernard 2021</strong></p> <p>McDowell is a very active and versatile forward. Offensively, he can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. Once he gets to the rim, he can go up strong and finish with contact from the defense. He can also step out and shoot from mid-range. He’s a strong rebounder who constantly swoops in and crashes the glass, especially on the offensive end. Active on defense with good footwork.</p> <p><strong>2. Yuuki Okubo – Crossroads 2020</strong></p> <p>Okubo is a solid floor leader. He’s been one of the driving forces behind the Roadrunners the past few seasons. He’s got a quick first step and he can get into the lane easily. Despite his size, once he’s in the lane he’s pretty solid when it comes to finishing over bigger defenders. Has a good outside shot. Runs the offense well and looks to find his teammates for easy bucket. Good defender who tries hard on that end.</p> <p><strong>3. Miles Ceballos – Crossroads 2020</strong></p> <p>Ceballos is one of the senior leaders for the Roadrunners. He’s a strong wing player who is adept at getting to the rim and finishing the play. He can also draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line. He can shoot from both mid-range and from the three-point line. He can handle the ball and make plays for others. Good defensive player on the wings.</p> <p><strong>4. Guilherme Pedra – Cathedral 2020</strong></p> <p>Pedra is a lights out shooter from three-point range. He can create his own shot on the perimeter. He’s particularly good, however, at moving without the ball, especially when it comes to utilizing screens. He comes off screens well and is ready to shoot immediately after catching a pass. Defenders know he is dangerous from distance, and he’s able to use fakes to get them out of position and then get to the rim.</p> <p><strong>5. Bilal Mikes – R.O.N Institute 2020</strong></p> <p>Mikes is a solid combo guard. He can handle the ball and make plays for others, but he definitely has a penchant for scoring. He’s aggressive in attacking the rim and he can draw contact from the defense and get himself to the free-throw line. Runs the floor well in transition. He has good footwork on offense around the rim. Solid shooter from mid-range.</p>
