Conference Commentary
Potential Top Ten: Pine City
Pine City won 24 of 18 games a season ago with only two seniors in the rotation. Those seniors were the second and third leading scorers but Pine City was a balanced team that was able, and will be able to get numbers from all over. Plus Seth Logan was the top player all around as a 6-foot-5 skilled player who also boards.
Compete with Most: Braham, Isle, Onamia
The Bombers were a .500 team last year and lost three starters. The good news is that the junior class is solid and could lead the program back to 20 win territory. Isle returns three senior starters and Lucas Gross is the top returning scorer from the Huskies which should help the team improve by five games. The Lions improved by seven games a year ago and with Josh Parrow leading the way they should improve by another seven games.
Rebuilding: Hinckley-Finlayson, Rush City, East Central, Ogilvie
It’s not to say that the H-F Jags are going to be at the bottom of the league because that isn’t likely to happen, but the Jags only have one player back from last year’s rotation. It’s simply a rebuild that could go well quickly, but it’s tough to really know until the new players get their first taste of varsity action. Rush City is like the Jags in that they have some good young talent and should be solid, but they are also starting over as they have so many good young players. East Central is a true rebuild with six games won a year ago and their constant playmaker gone. Ogilvie is on a 36 game losing streak.
