The Basketball Colorado Showcase was this past weekend and if there is one thing that is for certain, that showcase has some new names emerge and hop onto the scene both from far and near. Players went at it in front of college coaches and brought some of their best stuff. Here are some game changers who impacted the game in various ways other than just scoring.

Vincas Veikalas— Overland

After a solid debut at the 250 Expo for Veikalas which seen him as a top-3 performer on the day he came back down to Earth for the moment. But that does not mean that he did not show out as a player that makes winning plays. Veikalas is still a player that is going to give opposing team fits as he is difficult to guard with defenders not having the strength, size or speed to hang with him and I expect that to be something to watch moving forward. At the showcase he was showing that he is a strong rebounder that grabs the boards and go back up, he is also very strong and knows his way around the paint which is where he will surely create mismatches. At the event he was attacking inside and also knocking down a few shots.

Eddie McPhee—George Washington

The sky is the limit for McPhee as he is just now starting to tap into that potential that has had him as a standout at every event that we have seen him at this offseason. If he takes some of these things into season watch out for that Patriots team that has some under the radar stars. At the event he got to the rim and was one of the smarter players on the day as he worked the middle. He would pass it to the middle and cut where he was finishing with ease. It was interesting to see him in a guard duty role as he will have to play at times this season. I’m very high on McPhee.

Bryson Stephens – Arapahoe

Stephens had himself a great day as one of the standout scorers on the day. He got to the rim and scored with ease. He finished at the rim and also got some shots off no matter if there was a defender or not. Where Stephens was really dangerous was running the break. He is such a solid scorer that defenders started to try to double him and he made quick decisions to get rid of it and the right cuts. The game that I watched him in he finished with 20 points and also generated the offense from the lead guard spot. He is a high IQ player that scores when he wants. Liked what I seen from him and that Arapahoe team will surely surprise.

Sayo Owolabi—Vista Peak

Owolabi has so many moving parts to his game that it is difficult to key in on what he does best. He is a player with great size and is very skilled as on off-ball offensive player. He got to the rim, finished with both hands and used his size and strength to get what he wanted. He is a great cutter and he also hustles which got him some easy baskets. He pushed it on the break, had a few and-1 finishes and also to end the day he went out with a game that he was dominating in with easy baskets. Make sure you get to watch him as he is a player that can impact the game on both ends without scoring a ton.

Isaiah Hayes – Range view

Hayes is the epitome of a game changer. He does not have to score a ton for you to see that what he is doing is impacting the game. He hustles, he makes the right plays and he also is a combo-guard that can go both ways. There was a stint in the showcase that he had four straight steals and took those for fast break finishes. He starts runs alone and more often than not if you put him on a guard to slow them down he is going to do it. He hustles and opens things up and that was on display at the showcase.
