The Prep Hoops 250 expo hit Colorado this past weekend and what a turnout it was. It was an event that had plenty of returning faces but what really stood out was the new faces that made stood out from not only Colorado but other states as well. In the article we take a look at some of the new names that jumped on the scene and are now making us have to rank them.

William White – Coronado – 2021

White was a player that hustled and played with a ton of energy the entire time he was out there. At showcases there are down times where there is not a ton of energy but he made sure to keep it up as he got to the right places, moved well without he ball and put himself in positions to score. He finished around the rim and showed off his soft touch and he also ran the floor well in which he was awarded for his effort. What stood out was his strength. White was able to hold his own down on the block and also scored easy on smaller defenders. Stock boosting day for him.

Camden Smithburg – Limon -- 2021

Smithburg is a pure scorer as a shot maker that played under control at all times. He has a tight handle with moves for a purpose, he goes at whoever is in front of him and also showcased that he can shoot the ball well as he remained aggressive throughout the entire event. With the ball in his hands he is dangerous in the open court and also can generate points in the half-court set as well as you can run him off of screens and he is going to get a shot up as a pure shooter. On defense he stayed in front of his man, did the simple things such as boxing out and also switched onto bigger players while showing resistance. Smithburg is a scorer to watch moving forward that showed that he belongs.

Colton Gillingham – Greeley West – 2021

Gillingham is a player that showed extreme confidence in his jump shot throughout the day as he knocked down multiple shots, specifically as a spot up shooter with range. He is a player that has to be guarded as soon as he reaches half-court and it was interesting to see him go on mini runs early on in the day. He does the small things well as a player that can generate offense at any given moment. He is always moving, he plays the screen well and has good vision as well. Offense is where he will separate himself. Solid showing from him.

Mateo Magana – Northfield –2021

Magana first stands out due to his appearance with the large curly afro, but then he also starts doing things on the court that changes the game. At the event his teammates made sure to find him on the perimeter as he knocked down open 3-pointers. Magana moves well without the ball and has smooth shooting mechanics. He also is not afraid to put the ball on the floor and operate as he did that to carve up the defense as well. Magana got into the defense and was able to find the open man. He had some creative passes that got his man open and is a player to watch moving forward.

Xavier Sterling -- Harrison

Sterling was one of the better all-around players on the day. He scored, rebounded and defended as he played both guard spots and also out on the wing as well. The offense came to him as he has good size and athleticism and a knack for making winning plays as he is able to get whatever he wants at the rim. He penetrates the defense and then makes a quick decision. With him being a taller guard he was relegated to being defended by the bigger players and he took advantage of that with his speed. Sterling is a scorer that has good vision and is aggressive offensively. On defense he is able to guard multiple positions and can cause mismatches on both ends of the floor. He is a player that we now have an eye on that is poised for a big year out in the Springs.
