Prospect Spotlight: Jahari Simon (2020)
Perhaps one of the unsung heroes from last year’s state championship team, Jahari Simon gained valuable experience playing alongside a talented group. The 6-foot-2 wing was effective in his role off the bench. Simon was asked to come in, play good team defense and make shots from the perimeter, which he did efficiently.
“We had a good group of guys last year,” Simon said of last year’s team. “They helped me improve my game. I’d like to show my potential this year in a bigger role. It should be a good year.”
The Raiders are expected to once again be one of the toughest teams in 4A this season. Simon is coming off a productive summer in which we played big minutes as we saw his role begin to expand. He definitely stood out as one of the more consistent shooters on the team, but he also gave good effort defensively as he had done in the past.
“I like to shoot. I can come off screens. I can pull up and shoot too, but I’ve got to work on my left hand,” Simon explained. “Some things I do that might not show up on the stat sheet are hustle, get on the floor, and play defense.”
Simon says his main goal is to play D1 ball, but right now he’d like to improve his grades and show that he can work just as hard in the classroom as he does on the court.
