Southern Lakes Conference Prospects To Watch

The Southern Lakes Conference isn't known as a hotbed of basketball talent, but has produced some solid prospects as of late, and has sent a team to the Division 2 State Tournament the past two years (Westosha Central and Elkhorn). This upcoming season there are a handful of solid college prospects set to compete in the SLC, including a top-5 ranked player in the 2022 class. Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at some of the players with college potential in the SLC.

Jack Rose (6'3 2022 G, Westosha Central)- We'll start off this list with the highest ranked prospect in the conference in Jack Rose. Jack is now the 3rd ranked prospect in the 2022 class after the departure of Tre White, and perhaps has the most advanced offensive skill-set in the class. At 6'3 he already has decent height for his position, and has an array of combination dribbling moves to create his own shot. His right-to-left crossover into a pull-up mid-range proved to be deadly this summer with Playground Warriors, and he's also a high level three point shooter. Always giving 100% effort on the court, Jack excels at fighting for tough rebounds and is a high energy player on both ends. He averaged 7.2 ppg last season as a freshman off the bench playing behind a Top-10 2019 guard in Jaeden Zackery, and will take over the role of primary scorer for Central as a sophomore.

Isaiah Hoyt (6' 2021 PG, Union Grove)- Fresh off of a productive sophomore year at Prairie, Isaiah recently transferred to Union Grove heading into his junior year. A top-25 caliber player in Wisconsin's 2021 class, Isaiah is a sniper from beyond the arc, while also playing in the role of a "true point guard". He can handle the rock and is extremely unselfish as a distributor. It will be interesting to see how he meshes with new teammates and in a slower paced offense at Union Grove, but after averaging 11.4 points and 3.2 assists as a sophomore, it's clear he has the ability to be one of the most productive players in the conference.

Nick Brown (6'5 2020 W, Elkhorn)- After playing a big role in leading Elkhorn to the Division 2 State Tournament as a junior, Nick earned an offer from, and committed to NCAA D2 Parkside. Possessing length and athleticism, Nick finds himself playing in the post a bit more for Elkhorn, but is a knockdown shooter from distance, shooting at an impressive 48% clip last season. He used that shooting touch to average 10.7 ppg on a well balanced team. With both of the Umnus brothers graduated and moving on to Wisconsin Lutheran College, look for Nick to take on more of a burden offensively, and dominate in the Southern Lakes Conference.

Dylan Runkel (6'7 2020 F, Burlington)- The top big man in the conference, Dylan is the 62nd ranked senior in Wisconsin, and is a force in the paint. He possesses a strong frame that he uses to bully defenders in the paint, and converts at a high rate around the basket. Dylan excels at fighting for position on the block, and his frame allows him to seal off defenders to get easy looks at the rim. Despite his 210 pound frame, Dylan has the explosiveness to be a threat above the rim. He earned 1st-Team All Conference last year while averaging 12.4 ppg, and will look to dominate the paint as a senior. Dylan recently committed to Western Illinois for football.

Bradley Bell (6'6 2022 F, Westosha Central)- Sticking with the post theme, Bradley Bell is an up and coming forward that saw minutes sparingly last year on a loaded Westosha Central team. A wiry forward prospect, Bradley looks capable of still growing a bit more, and has solid mobility for a young player of his height. Currently ranked in the top-50 for the 2022 class, Bell had a big role for arguably the top 15u team in the state this summer (Wisconsin PGC). He played in 10 games at the varsity level last season, averaging 2.7 points in those appearances. Bell is an intriguing prospect to watch moving forward, and he'll likely take on a big role for a rebuilding Westosha Central program this year.

Collin Long (6'3 2020 W, Union Grove)- A deep sleeper out of southeast Wisconsin, Collin Long is a player who could have a productive senior year for a Union Grove team that figures to improve a lot on their past season. At 6'3, Collin is a wiry wing player who is an explosive leaper and can finish above the rim with ease. With some improved handles and three point jumper, Collin will look to improve upon his 8.9 ppg as a junior. If he can show more confidence and consistency in his shot this year, he's a player that might warrant some looks from smaller college programs, as his athleticism and length make him a threat to contribute on the defensive end. One to watch as a potential breakout guy in the SLC this year.

Devon Davey (6' 2020 PG, Elkhorn)- Another key contributor in Elkhorn's state run last year, Devon will look to build on a solid junior year that saw him average 6.6 points and 3.8 assists per contest. Though he wasn't called upon to score the rock a lot, Davey is a consistent shooter from distance, and he knocked down 44% of his shots from beyond the arc. Despite not being the primary point guard, Devon proved himself as a great distributor. The pass first point guard is ranked 117th in our 2020 rankings, and will warrant some looks for a guard that can distribute and shoot the three ball.
