Wright spent the grassroots season playing with ECI where he had a chance to play against top-flight competition every weekend. That experience helped him develop his game immensely.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Wright. “We competed very well. We were in the top division most of the summer. Playing against players that are the best on their team or in their area brings out a whole different kind of competition. It really prepares you for the next level. Everything is turned up a notch.”
Wright has great size and strength for a guard. He uses that to his advantage, bullying opposing guards, getting into the paint and using his physicality. His basketball smarts and decision making is a strength and he’s a very good perimeter defender.
He’s one of the best players in the WDA and he’ll lead a Midgets team that expects to be improved this winter.
“I’m very excited,” said Wright. “We have a lot of returning starters and returning players. We have experience. I think we can compete and surprise people in the WDA.”
Wright is drawing quite a bit of interest from local colleges to play at the next level.
“I’ve gone to a few elite camps over the summer and that was great for my development,” said Wright. “I’ve talked a lot with Dickinson State and a little bit with the head coach at Minot and coaches at the elite camps.”
