Schaefer is one of several players on a very good ECI Select team that made them able to compete with just about anybody. Jack several times was the 20 plus per game scorer.
“We had countless close games this summer so it was really fun to be under that late game stress and rise to the challenge,” Jack told PHD. “AAU really forced me to be a better player because of the competition and the fast paced games. I really embraced it and loved learning from all the ECI coaches as they do a very good job teaching us the game.
“I also thought we had great team chemistry this year which made for an awesome summer. It’s fun to play the game of basketball but even better when you get to share all of the experiences with your friends!”
Jack made a name for himself state wide with his play the past four months. Now his focus is on getting his high school team in the gym so they can make a March run.
“It all starts with getting in the gym,” Jack said. “It’s tough coming from a small town as everyone is doing a fall sport making it very difficult to get together consistently. I think the biggest thing for my high school team is to play together as much as possible and build better chemistry.
“I’m looked at as the leader so I have to get my teammates to have fun and give all they’ve got in an effort to improve their skills. As for me I do what I need to do in order to improve my game every single day.”
Schaefer accepted a partial scholarship offer from Minot State and it’s something that is a dream come true. He loves the idea of competing at that level and the coaches are an exciting part of his decision as well.
“It was a great feeling having so many years of hard work pay off and to have the opportunity to play at the next level,” Jack told PHD. “I think they have a fantastic program all around. The coaching staff was awesome and really showed me what Minot State is all about.
“The coaches are the kind of guys that you just want to work hard and do your best for. They are improving their record every year which shows they are on the right track. The players are great to be around and their facilities are top notch. I’m just very excited and blessed to have the opportunity to play for them!”
