Anthony Leal is a talented guard who is starting to show the true strengths in his offensive arsenal. He is best when he is creating around the arc and finding ways to get his shot off from deep. Leal has good length at the guard position and a high release point which allow him to get shots off under duress. The most recent improvement to his offensive game is his creativeness at getting to the ten-foot mark and being creative with his finishes.
“I think I’ve gotten stronger physically, but more importantly, mentally.” Parts of Anthony’s recent success of getting to the basket has been the strength he has been adding in the weight room. He’s able to take the initial bump and turn it into something that helps him get to his spot.
Anthony Leal is currently the #1 ranked Shooting Guard and #2 overall prospect in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2020. “I’m excited to play the next level. Somewhere that can help me develop and get a good degree.” Leal currently holds offers from a slew of schools including: Bradley University, Xavier University, Iowa University, Northwestern University, Maryland University, Indiana University, Ohio State University, Butler University, Stanford University, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Evansville. There are still DI schools offering scholarships so this list is likely to grow over the coming weeks.
As Leal continues to tap into his offensive potential, he’s staying focused at working on his some of his weaknesses. “I’m trying to improve everywhere but primarily being stronger handling the ball.”
If Anthony can create his own shot on one or two dribbles, he will be a lethal scorer at the next level. The long ball is already there and he’s efficient at the free-throw line. As he continues to grow and add more tools to his game, he’s only going to create a stronger case for being an impact player early in his career.
In terms of what he’s looking to study or when he is looking to visit schools, most of that is still up in the air. He has interest in Psychology but hasn’t decided on a degree as of yet. With the list of offers he has, he is going to take some time to set visits up in the future.
Anthony Leal will be a name that buzzes throughout his senior year as he looks to put together a Mr. Basketball campaign with Bloomington South.
