Unfortunately, Whitehaven lost some pieces to its puzzle.
Four-star guard Matthew Murrell will finish his high school basketball career at IMG Academy. The Tigers’ starting point guard from last season Kavion McClain will spend his senior season under Maurice Miller at Arlington High School.
New head coach Fred Horton, who was the longtime former Booker T. Washington coach and one of the most successful coaches in Memphis with 695 career wins, will need to replace McClain and Murrell if his goal is to get Whitehaven back to the state tournament.
The Tigers will have some solid experience back next season in guards Jesse Payne and Antwan Smith and forward Devine Owens. Faragi’s son, Ragi Phillips, may return next season or head with his father to play at a high school in Nashville, Tennessee. Alden Applewhite, a 6-foot-6 combo guard, was at Lausanne his first two years of high school but is looking for a new home. Whitehaven is one of his choices along with White Station and Houston.
