Damien Daniels 5’7″ KC Game Speed (Hogan Prep): Pound for pound one of the toughest players in the tournament, Daniels attacks the basket relentlessly with his speed and strength, which enables him to finish amongst the trees on a consistent basis. In one game, he rallied Game Speed from a late 10-point deficit with an eight-point flurry of layups and steals to lead his team to a dramatic victory.
R.J. Lawrence 5’11” KC Pacers Blue (Blue Springs): An excellent scoring combo guard who did a nice job of picking his spots when to take over games offensively. He would spend part of the game as a facilitator, but then he would go off on a scoring binge with his ability to get to the basket, stop and pop from 15 feet and knock down 3-pointers.
Hayden Sprenkel 6’2″ SEMO Storm (North County): A solid combo guard who was one of the top perimeter shooters in the tournament. He went off for 28 points in a game against KC Pacers Blue in bracket play. He made seven 3-pointers, with many coming from well beyond the 3-point line. He also displayed a nice float game off the dribble when defenders closed out on him.
Austin Thompson 6’2″ Missouri Hustle (MICDS): An excellent pass-first point guard who had a breakout weekend as a scorer. He attacked the basket for buckets and continued to knock down mid-range jumpers off the dribble. Thompson also started to make some 3-pointers off the catch. He displayed his athleticism with a few big dunks in transition. Enjoys defense.
Cameron Van Leer 6’4″ Gateway (Pacific): A solid point guard with excellent size who helped lead Gateway to the Final Four of the 16U tournament. He is always under control and rarely gets rattled. He passes the ball well and showed the ability to get in the lane and shoot over smaller defenders. Big enough to excel at all three perimeter positions.
Jai Love 5’8″ St. Louis Ballers (CBC): Another breakout performer over the weekend who did an excellent job of scoring the ball. He opened up the tournament with a 34-point performance, including eight 3-pointers. He displayed a beautiful stroke from 3-point range. He has the quickness to get by defenders and get in the lane, which makes him a dangerous scorer. A real scoring point guard.
Landon Harrison 5’10” Missouri Combat (Helias): A tough, hard-nosed point guard who competes at a high level with his ability to attack the basket and score. I enjoy how fearless he is when attacking the basket. Plays with a lot of confidence and instills that confidence in his teammates. Also a good 3-point shooter.
Demarcus Sharp 6’2″ SEMO Bulls (Charleston): A long, athletic guard who starting to adjust to becoming a point guard. His length serves him well defensively as he likes to play in the passing lanes. He is also an excellent 3-point shooter with improved handles and athleticism. “Harky” has a nice upside.
Trent Lyles 5’11” Missouri Hustle (Sacred Heart): He really looked to beat his defenders with dribble penetration throughout the weekend. Did a nice job of getting into the lane and creating offense. Strong with the ball. Has continued to improve his ability to knock down open 3-pointers off the catch.
Marco Powells 5’10” St. Louis Majestics (Fort Zumwalt North): Young guard who has an excellent basketball IQ. Has good strength which enables him to get to the basket and score at a variety of angles at the rim. Also displayed some very good mid-range shooting off the dribble. Very impressed with his ability to stay under control and make good decisions.
Lavell Harris 5’10” St. Louis Prospects (St. Mary’s): An energetic guard who makes things happen from the moment he steps on the floor. Plays with excellent energy and quickness of the defensive end. Will pick you up in a minute. He also has a nice stroke from 3-point range.
