Obioha averaged 12.4 points a game making half of his 240 field goals and 35 percent of his three-point attempts. Throw in 6.3 rebounds and about 2.5 assists a team leading block number and you have a nice season. The type of season that should help Will and GFRR into next year.
“My high school team next year has a tremendous amount of potential,” Obioha said. “We have a lot of skilled forwards and guards that are returning. We also have a lot of players that can come off the bench and impact the game. A lot of guys returning have previously been to state once or twice so I believe we will have a good chance to win state.”
Obioha recently led the ECI Prospects 16u team to a weekend championship in Fargo helping the team to a 13-9 mark on the year. Playing with ECI has helped Will move forward as a player.
“Some of the best highlights from this summer have been competing with some of the top players in the Midwest,” Will said. “Also the bond we have, not just with my teammates but with coaches and other players. We hangout in-between games or at the hotel, the connection we have off the court really helps us gel together on the court.”
Will has a few more events left with ECI plus has a strong set of workouts planned.
“My plans for the summer are are to finish up my last three tournaments with ECI 16u. I also have the UNI (Northern Iowa) team camp coming up on the 7th with my high school team (this past weekend). Also I’m attending the NDSU camp this summer.
“As far as working out, I’m in Santa Barbra working out at P3 Sports Science for the week. Also I have been working out with a basketball trainer that works with P3, I have been learning a lot from him and a couple other players from overseas. I can continue to work on when I get back to continue to elevate my game.”
Will is spending his summer moths expanding his ability as an all around player working with trainers, coaches, or by himself.
“An area I would like to improve on is being more consistent around the perimeter with my three point shot,” Obioha said. “My Ball handling can improve. Also my IQ just knowing whose on the court so I help my teammates get better.”
Will is still becoming a known player when it comes to college interest but a few programs have spoken to him already.
“I’ve talked to University of Northern Iowa. Also Minnesota State University-Moorhead said they’ve taken interest.”
