Berg, a 6-foot-3 guard from West Fargo Sheyenne, is one of the top prospects in North Dakota’s 2020 class. He was solid as a junior for the Mustangs and if his play over the spring is any indication for what’s in store next winter, look out.
“Playing in that Sanford league really helps us out,” said Berg. “It’s the best competition we’ve really seen before. It’s gone great so far. I feel like our team is really talented and we have guys that can do a lot of stuff out there. We’ve played really well together.”
Berg’s a heady player who uses his length and skill to his advantage. He’s smart off the ball, utilizing screens and cuts to free himself for scoring opportunities and he’s a solid slasher and finisher. That length comes in handy on the defensive end of the floor as well, where he can really bother guys. This spring, he’s shown quite a bit of improvement as an outside shooter which was something he was prioritizing improvement at.
“I want to add more of a midrange jumper,” said Berg. “More consistent shooting all around.”
Berg’s got the skill, smarts, size and athletic upside to be a really nice college player. He’s one of the more highly sought-after players in North Dakota for that reason.
“I’ve been talking with SW Minnesota State, U Mary, Minot State, Bemidji, Jamestown, St. Johns and Mayville just contacted me recently too,” Berg said. “I’m going to U Mary’s camp and Southwest’s camp later in June and plan on visiting St. Johns soon.”
