A three-year starter at St. Joseph Central, the 6-foot Austin averaged 16.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists to lead his team to a 15-11 record. He teams up with fellow 2017 guard Jaiden Bristol to form one of the top backcourts in Missouri. In his three years, Austin has averaged 12.2 points a game.
“I would describe my game as a scoring guard that can create for others,” Austin said. “I attack the basket well and can shoot from deep as well.”
This summer he has competed for Team KC which features a host of talented players from around the Kansas City area. He says he has been working on floaters and his mid-range game to try and complete his scoring arsenal and become a threat from all levels of the court.
“The spring and summer for my team and I has been going really well,” he said. “We are playing good basketball and are getting recognized with colleges. My experience has grown through the mental aspect of the game and how to focus on playing hard every second.”
Austin says he has heard from a mixture of NCAA Division I and Division II schools and says the interest has picked up after a strong weekend at the Mullens Invitational in Kansas City.
Although Austin says he doesn’t focus on watching any particular player, he says he does going back and watching Drazen Petrovich from the Nets.
“Shooting-wise, I like to see how he shot the ball and prepared himself before the pass,” Austin said.
