It’s packed with the best talent from around the state and this year was no different. Today, we are looking at the top 2021 prospects in the event and those at the wing positions.
Donavon Barnett – 6’5 SF 2021 – Crispus Attucks (IN) – Grand Park Premier 2021 Red
Barnett is a tough, physical wing with a solid pull-up game. Was more of a slasher in this one where he was looking to create in the lane and used his frame well. Good rebounding wing around the rim and seems like he can grab and go in transition well enough to give value there. He’s fairly balanced with his game right now but he’s better when the jumper is the first look. Upside is huge and could be close to a breakout if he can really get locked in.
Tre Hurst – 6’3 SF 2021 – Homestead (IN) – Gym Rats 2021 Black
Tre is a big, strong forward with some stretch ability. He’s a guy that could float between the 3 and 4 spots but would need quite a bit more size to do that effectively. He’s a capable shooter with a good release. Rebounding is solid and can give it to you on either end utilizing his body and strength. Right now, he’s so in-between positions that he’s tough to get a read on but could be one that develops late.
Luke Goode – 6’6 SF 2021 – Homestead (IN) – Indy Heat 2021 EYBL
Luke is a tough wing with a lot of skill and shooting ability. He’s not he most athletic or quick but he makes up for it as a high IQ guy that has size and length and utilizes his body better than most. Was good as a shooter, even showing off a solid fadeaway jumper in the mid-range. His passing looks improved and finding teammates better. He’s assertive enough and balanced with his passing that he doesn’t overplay his hand but still finds his offense every time out, which isn’t the easiest thing for players at his age.
Khamani Smith – 6’4 SG 2021 – Fort Wayne Northrop (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2021
Khamani is a long, strong guard with range and toughness. Was really good shooting off the catch but did look like he had enough to have a decent pull-up game too. His size and strength are going to be coveted because he probably sticks as a 2G. He’s pretty smooth and seems to play under control a ton. Wide shoulders and long arms that could turn him into a really high-end defender from the guard spot.
Owen Dease – 6’5 SF 2021 – Evansville Reitz (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2021
Owen is a long, lean forward that has enough athletic ability and skill to be a tweener even at the next level between a 3/4. Good size and handles for him but would like to see a little more aggressiveness looking for scoring chances. Just a little too passive at times. Was good when shooting and has that spacing ability when matched up against other fours and he’s also going to be much more mobile and athletic in those.
Douglas Konieczny Jr. – 6’7 SF 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN) – Indiana Elite North 2020
Konieczny is a long, rangy forward with a ton of skill. He played up with IE North 2020 this weekend as was really good at that level too. He was shooting the ball well, creating along the perimeter well and having the handles play fine against defenders. The confidence seems to be growing along with his athleticism. He’s so good now with his body movement and might be starting to add weight. Once the body becomes more full, he’s going to take off.
