It’s packed with the best talent from around the state and this year was no different. Today, we are looking at the top 2022 prospects in the event and those at the guard positions.
Burke Weldy – 6’0 PG 2022 – Carmel (IN) – All Indy Gym Rats 2022 Black
Burke is a slight framed guard with good handles and passing and a really capable jumper. He’s good as a catch-and-shoot guy. He’s polished enough right now to stay on the ball. Slight frame that will need strength as he develops but doesn’t seem to take away from his game right now. Not a big slasher/driver, but more of a facilitator/shooter.
Willie Mays – 5’8 PG 2022 – Crispus Attucks (IN) – All Indy Gym Rats 2022 Black
Willie is a quick twitch lead guard that has a ton of speed and dimension to his game. On-ball guard that likes to drive to make plays but capable of stepping out and shooting from distance. Uses his speed well to his advantage and can change speeds very well to help create space.
Bryan Marshall – 6’2 SG 2022 – Franklin Central (IN) – EG10 2022
Bryan is a tough, strong guard who can play on or off the ball. We have seen him play really well at times. He’s not a guy that looks like he is quick but the more we watch him he’s really crafty and got a great first step. Saw him be really creative in and around the rim. Still a little unsure of long-term position but right now he’s being utilized all over the place.
Nick Klaiber – 6’0 PG 2022 – Bloomington North (IN) – Indiana Elite 2022
Klaiber looked really solid this weekend. Mostly, he looked great in transition because he has really done well with his passing and vision. He’s really quick, faster than maybe we thought and because of his ball skills and passing, he looks much more of a playmaker. For sure a point guard, think the upside is there for the future.
Peter Suder – 6’4 SG 2022 – Carmel (IN) – Indiana Elite 2022
Suder continues to be the hardest worker in the state. This weekend, we did see him look to shoot a little more. It’s the one area of his game that needs to improve or at least become more prevalent. It looked solid just a little unfamiliar for him so repetition and time will come into play. He is showing a ton of creativity in the lane, though, floaters and runners really helping him finish at a high rate and doing it against athleticism and length.
Garrett Yoon – 5’11 PG 2022 – Lawrenceburg (IN) – Indiana Legends 2022
Garrett is a tough, strong lead guard with a good jumper and a quick release. He’s probably best right now as a shooter, great as a perimeter creator as well. Liked his ability to move to get off shots using a side-step or step-back. Really solid pull-up in transition. He’s really well built as a guard and looks far and away the strongest on his team. Utilizing that more on his drives would be something we are looking for next.
Jalen Jackson – 5’11 PG 2022 – Fort Wayne Carroll (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2022
Jalen is a tough lead guard with a good body for his size and quite a bit of strength. It does look like he will grow a little more but he already has quite a bit of length in hand. He’s a guy that has some dynamic ability using ball screens and has a capable jumper. It is a little long right now but workable. He’s tough when he looks to drive or is getting pressure. Solid balance on offense right now.
Tayshawn Comer – 5’11 PG 2022 – Cathedral (IN) – Team Teague 2022
Comer is a tough, lead guard who looks a little taller and stronger since the high school season. He was great in the open floor and liked how his separation ability has developed. He’s got a lot of quick twitch in his game but he’s also really good as a change-of-speed guy. About as tough and competitive as they come.
Leland Walker – 5’10 PG 2022 – North Central (IN) – Team Teague 2022
This was definitely a different look than we had seen but good. He’s normally a more composed half-court leader but was much more up-and-down in this game. Was also showing some bounce and his athletic ability. He’s not the tallest or strongest guard but he’s got all of the things you want where he is cocky without being loud or obnoxious, tough without having to show it off all the time, and smart. Probably one of the highest IQ guys we have scouted. The athleticism is going to play really well and what can make him a guard like a Mekhi Lairy (Bosse/Miami-OH) with his length and athleticism playing up.
