College Commitment: Jake Elfstrom (2019 Liberty HS)
Jake Elfstrom is headed south for school. The rising 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard from Liberty High School made the annoucement on Tuesday that he had committed to Point Loma Nazarene and he couldn't be happier about the decision. The chance to with the Sea Lions came about only recently for Elfstrom, who took advantage of an existing relationship and a coaching change to find his college home despite the fact he has yet to see the school in person.
"About two weeks ago, Matt Logie got the job at Point Loma and back when he was at Whitworth he was recruiting me back in July," Elfstrom said. "So when he got the job (at Point Loma) we started talking and then it just happened, he offered me."
Elfstrom's relationship with Logie made all the difference in his decision. "I love how excited how excited he is about the program and how he wants it to continue to be better," Elfstrom said. "Bouncing back from national champion runner-up, that's a very hard thing to do to take over the job there but I think he's going to do a very good job. I really like him as a coach and as a person."
While Elfstrom has yet to step foot on campus, he has been to the general area so he has a feel for the surroundings. And through Logie and others who are familiar with the school, he is comfortable with what Point Loma has to offer him as a university as well.
"I didn't take a visit but I've been to San Diego a couple of times," Elfstrom said. "I like the location, it's super pretty and I also want to study business and they have a business program that I like. It's a very good school and a very good offer."
Elfstrom has been playing on the AAU circuit this spring with Elite Prep, but will not focus on individual skill work as he prepares for the next level. "I think I'm going to be more of a shooting guard," Elfstrom said. "I'm definitely going to work on more ball-handling and athleticism."
Elfstrom currently ranks as the #28 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2019 rankings.
