Participating teams included LC Bird, Meadowbrook, Colonial Heights, Petersburg, Motoaca, Prince Edward, Manchester, Hopewell, and Dinwiddie. The league will take a week off and then resume at Meadowbrook High School from July 11-22.
Below is a list of prospects who stood out at the Summer League.
Jyles Webster – 6’7’’ PF – LC Bird
Webster has enjoyed a breakout summer. He’s shown an improvement offensively, developing the ability to score with both hands around the rim and stick the 15 foot jumper. Webster finishes above the rim and is an excellent rebounder and defender.
Nathaniel Hut – 5’8’’ PG – Manchester
Hut attacked the LC Bird summer league, looking to prove himself in the Richmond area. He plays with a great pace to his game and really understands what he’s doing. Hut shot the ball at a high rate from the perimeter, broke people down off the bounce and created for his teammates.
Terrence Whitfield – 6’4’’ Wing – Matoaca
Whitfield has developed a reputation in Richmond as a player, but he needs more attention on the recruiting front. He’s a long, athletic wing who excels in transition. Whitfield is a lock-down perimeter defender who has displayed a good work rate. He’s shown the ability to shoot it from three and attack in straight lines. He’s a scholarship level kid worth following in July.
David Gant – 6’3’’ Wing – Hopewell
Gant had a good summer league. He is a wide bodied wing that can really score it. He hit open three’s, one and two dribble pull-ups, and finished around the rim. He was really good at identifying mismatches, if he had a smaller player on him, he would take him to the post, if it was a bigger defender he attacked off the dribble. He’s got a good understanding of how to score.
Trey Green – 6’0’’ G – Petersburg
Green is paving the way for a rebuilding Petersburg. He was a good leader who took pride in making sure guys were in the right spot. Green showed he can shoot it, off the catch and off the bounce. In six games, he hit three or more three’s and averaged double figures for the two weeks at Bird.
Cam Henry – 6’4’’ PG – LC Bird
Henry has a legitimate chance to be a Division I level player. He’s a big, long guard who can play on and off the ball. He has a tight handle, can get a team in its offense, and can shoot it from deep. Henry is crafty in the lane using pro hops and eurosteps to avoid defenders and finish with either hand.
Tre’Mon Pope – 6’2’’ PG – Meadwobrook
A starter as a junior at Meadowbrook, Pope will take over the reigns as the leader of this year’s squad. He’s a big strong point guard, who’s shifty and can create his own shot. He did a good job of controlling the tempo of the game and dogged the ball defensively.
