#HardworkSZNKickoff: Mason’s Top Point Guards

This past weekend was the #HardworkSZNKickoff and there was talent all over the gym. In this article, I'll look at the top five point guards that I saw, regardless of class. This is performance based off of the games that I saw, not a talent based list.

Chucky Hepburn - 6'1 - 2021 - Team Factory Gold 2021 (NE)
I saw Hepburn play a few different times this weekend and I came away impressed every single time. He's a floor general and gets others involved. Hepburn is really solid at attacking the rim sucking the defense in allowing him to collapse the defense and open up the floor. He isn't an imposing guard but just gets it done with a ton of skill. He holds a lot of DI interest and has an offer from Nebraska.

Ian Latham - 5'11 - 2020 - Iowa Prep Black 2020 (IA)
I caught a glimpse of Latham on Saturday and he really impressed me. Latham is a smaller lead guard who looks to score first at times but has the ability to really control the game as well. I really liked his poise and decision making on the floor as he continually made the right decisions and passes. He's the motor behind how this team runs.

Max Rivera - 5'11 - 2021 - HIT 2021 (IL)
Rivera played really solid in the game that I saw and he's a phenomenal game manager. He didn't score a ton but was able to when needed. He made the game winning jumper to send his team to the final four of the 16U bracket. Rivera is a guy who can really do everything a very solid level. He can score, distribute, and run in transition, but I think the best part of his game is his on ball defense and communication. When Rivera gets hot, he sizzles.

Jamal Litt - 6' - 2020 - Iowa Mavs: Cleveland 2020 (IA)
Litt had one of his best games on Friday night. He was scoring the ball well and getting teammates involved. He didn't shoot much but rather drove the ball off the wing and got to the rim. Litt was really solid at passing the ball to open shooters once he drew in the defense. He's a guy who isn't going to come out and shock you, but rather just play really solid and effective.

Chandler Meeks - 6' - 2022 - Team Factory Gold 2022 (NE)
I saw Meeks play in the 15U championship game against Minnnesota Fury and he really impressed. Meeks was a guy who handles the ball well but mostly attacked the basket with the ball. He's so strong physically that if he gets his man on his hip then he's going to lay the ball in at the rim. While Meeks is a lead guard right now in terms of skill and ability, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sprout up a couple inches and move to an off ball role.
