Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with associate program director Matt Ricker.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
We started our program in 1988 to give players an opportunity to play AAU. Back than their were 2-3 programs around. We are starting our 31st season and we are proud of that. We have sent over 396 kids to Div 1, 16 kids to NBA, 4 NBA lottery picks, 16 MR Minnesota Basketball Winners and over 40 Million in scholarships.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
To give all players an opportunity that want to play at an Div 1 level in AAU to be able to showcase their talent. We also offer other age levels as well all the way down to 3rd grade so we just don’t market the 16 and 17.
What is your program’s mission each year?
To give every kid that comes to tryouts that has the ability the opportunity to play for Minnesota Magic.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
Yes I do. Zach Spann from Eastview High School. He is 6’6 wing who can jump out of gym and leap like no one else. Also Andrew Nerud a 6’8 center from New Prague. He new to the program this year but I would keep an eye on him this spring and summer. Both of these young men will be playing on our top 16u team.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
16u team will be playing in the Prep Hoops Circuit this year. Going to Council Bluffs, Midwest Live in Omaha in April, St Louis In May.
