Prospect Report: JC Tharrington (2019)
Charlotte Christian should have a chance to compete for a NCISAA state championship with the addition of 2019 big man BJ Mack transferring from NCHSAA 3-A state champion Charlotte Catholic. Charlotte Christian was already in good hands before the news with lead guard and rising sophomore JC Tharrington.
Shoot it from Anywhere
Tharrington is known as being one of the top shooters in North Carolina, he has the ability to start scoring once he crosses half-court. As a freshman last season he averaged 10.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3 rebounds per game for the 11-18 Knights. Blessed with a high basketball IQ, Tharrington always makes the right decision when the ball is in his hands. Has a knack for the ability create plays, has a natural feel for the game and has the characteristics of a true leader on the floor at all times.
Runs in the Family
Basketball is in the genes for the rising sophomore, his grandfather (George Lehmann) played in the NBA and ABA and set the record for most points scored in a quarter. “He could really shoot the ball” the younger Tharrington says. His mom played at NC State for legendary Coach Kay Yow, “For as long as I can remember she taught me how to shoot and instilled in me the work ethic to continue to work on it.”
Team United
Tharrington plays with Team United on the Nike EYBL circuit and has helped them secure the number two seed in Peach Jam held in Augusta, Ga. “We are just focused on winning Peach Jam and we are focused to do whatever it takes to make sure we bring that trophy home.”
Early Interest
Davidson, Appalachian State, Samford and Wofford are schools who have already shown interest in the sharp-shooter. “With it being so early in the recruiting process, I am just focusing on getting better and becoming the best player and person that I can become.”
