PHD Playoff Central. In Class A the top four ranked teams Tea Area, Sioux Falls Christian, St. Thomas More, and Pine Ridge all took care of Sweet Sixteen business with double figure victories on Tuesday. Kade Stearns of Tea Area was a highlighter with 25 points including five treys while future UC-Irvine guard Justin Hohn had a double double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. St. Thomas More won their game with junior guard Caden Casey scoring 24 and in the Pine Ridge win over Bon Homme, junior Charles Schrader scored 16.
The Big Stage. The final game of the Class B event is tomorrow night when Sully Buttes takes on Lemmon. The Cowboys have earned a 17-4 record this year while Sully Buttes is 17-3 this year. The Chargers are the 7th ranked team in Class B and have the six seed in Class B so they will be the favorite tomorrow night.
Upset City! Based on the seeds Madison beating Tiospa Zina and Dell Rapids knocking off Parker were upsets. Based on our rankings Madison getting the win was expected and many will tell you that Dell Rapids was their pick to win that 11/6 game. For Madison, Nic Comes exploded with 20 first half points leading the Dogs to a 72-63 victory (he scored 22 for the game). For Dell Rapids it was the Rentz (Colin and Connor) tandem that did Parker in. The pair of sophomores combined for 29 points with Colin scoring 17 points and recording five steals.
Right on Schedule. The top six teams in the PHD Class AA rankings all made the State Tournament. Harrisburg and Huron also made the state tournament and they filled out our latest top ten rankings as nine and ten. Everything is set up for an excellent three days of games.
Right on Schedule 2. Speaking of right on schedule, all of the top seeds in Class B won their game last night (save the one game that hasn’t been played yet).
Tip of the Hat to the Career. Camden Bialas led Parker High School to a 17-5 season. The 6-foot-9 big man is headed to Dordt next year. Bialas earned all-conference first-team honors as a junior (and should again as a senior) and was an all-state tournament pick in the 2017 Class B tournament as a sophomore.
