This will be a post that happens every Monday this season to tune you into the things you need to keep an eye out for. These are the things you should keep an eye on for the week of January 28th – February 2nd.
3 Teams
Greencastle
Greencastle hasn’t been talked about much throughout the state as a contender for the state finals. They sit at 12-2 on the season, and have a decently tough week coming up. Their only two losses have been to 10-5 South Putnam and 14-2 Edgewood. The problem with Greencastle is that their schedule is relatively weak compared to the top of 3A. They don’t have a tough schedule this week, but three wins should bring them closer to the top 10 in 3A.
Culver Academy
Culver Academy sits at 9-2 and have a big week coming up. They play SB St. Joseph’s and Lighthouse CPA, two 3A schools who are much better than their records. A big win last week over Cathedral puts them in a great spot to move up the charts in 3A. A Saturday contest with a good 1A Traders Point Christian team will cap off a tough week of basketball.
Wabash
Even though Wabash sits at 12-1, they haven’t been recognized by the polls yet. This week is a great test for them as they will be tested greatly. They have three games, two against 3A opponents and one against a 4A opponent. None of these schools are tremendous at basketball, but they hover around .500. With three wins, you’ll see Wabash jump onto the poll.
3 Games
Attucks vs. Brebeuf
This is a Thursday night battle between two of the top teams in 3A, and Sectional 27 foes. Attucks took out Brebeuf last year in the first game of Sectionals, so they are looking for a bit of revenge. Both teams are playing good basketball right now and it is a big game for both of these teams this week.
Edgewood vs. Bloomington North
We knew Edgewood would be good this season and so far they have been as advertised. Bloomington North is a little bit of a surprise at 11-3 but don’t yet have many signature wins. This game is a chance for them to knock off a good Edgewood team and prove that they are for real.
Penn vs. South Bend Riley
Another big Thursday night match-up and this one takes place in the region. Penn and South Bend Riley are having outstanding seasons and a win for either would be a statement win. Penn sits at 13-2 while South Bend Riley is 14-2. There are a lot of good games up in the northern part of the state this week, but none as big as this one.
3 Players
Tayson Parker
Parker has had a good season thus far, albeit the competition that Northwestern has played has been pretty weak. This week they face West Lafayette and I think it’ll be Parker’s biggest test. West Lafayette is pretty big and they play physically, something that Northwestern doesn’t get to see a lot of.
Brayton Bailey
It’s a big week for Bedford North Lawrence and Bailey is going to have to perform. They travel to take on Floyd Central and then they play Edgewood this weekend. For a team that has been hovering around .500 for most of this year, this is a huge set of games for them. Bailey will have to be at his best for two wins.
Lincoln Hale
Hale has been playing really well all season long and because of that Linton-Stockton has had a good year to this point. Hale is a guy who can go out and score pretty much all he wants but is pretty good about spreading the ball around. This week they will have their last of five straight road games against a very good South Knox team and then a home contest against White River Valley. Should be a good week for Hale
