Overview:
The class as a whole looks like it could be pretty solid but specifically the point guard groups, there are going to be some very intriguing guys to come out of it. Looking at the top two in the class, Tayshawn Comer and Leland Walker are going to be stellar high school players and have enough game to project well into the future. A little concern with Leland’s size but he’s probably the most talented “lead guard” in this class.
As we look down the list, there isn’t a ton of size yet in this group and some of the taller guards have yet to define themselves with the ball skills to be point guards. That will come with time. However, there are a lot of shot makers in this group. Braden Smith and Karson Jenkins are two that have shown us first hand their ability. Kobe Stoudemire and Ryan Collins look like to of the better all-around scorers of note.
We also like the fact that quite a few of these guys are producing at the Varsity level already. Not that it is a requirement to be listed on here but definitely gives some more validity to their game. Guys like Comer, Walker, Klaiber, Turner, and Smith have been really good this season to date. Even down the list a bit, Clayton Bridwell, Randy Kelley, and Travis Grayson are starter level guys for their teams.
New Additions:
Last time through the rankings, we only had 30 players ranked in the state. Now, we are up to 60 overall. In this set of rankings, we have added 11 point guards to the list with the highest ranked among them, Anderson’s Dayveon Turner. Turner, at 5’10, is one of the better all-around guards in the state. He’s really solid scoring and has a capable jumper. Good frame with some length and a mindset that looks as if he should develop the skill set pretty quickly. We also introduce Karsen Jenkins, Ryan Collins, Chrishon McCray, Jonah Lucas, Kobe Stoudemire, Ryan Conwell, Travis Grayson, Clayton Bridwell, Randy Kelley, and Coy Gilbert.
Stock Risers:
There are two guys who moved up four spots each in the overall rankings, Leland Walker and Nick Klaiber. Both players have been very impressive in their seasons so far and especially Walker, he’s proven he’s among the smartest players and craftiest we have seen since we began Prep Hoops Indiana. Klaiber’s size and production so far this year are two factors for him. We believe he will stay on the ball and he’s really tough when he needs to be. The ability to use your body and produce, at this age, is not really something you see a lot.
