Here is a look at the Class of 2019 standouts from Thursday night’s semifinals games:
Avery Taggart 6’5″ Eureka: The thick-bodied wing player scored a game high 37 points and nearly rallied the Wildcats from a 17-point second half deficit to a near victory. He was unstoppable in the second half as he got buckets from all three levels. He used his go-to spin move to get to the basket and was able to muscle inside for driving buckets and post-ups in the paint. AT could also pull up and knock down a deep 3-pointer. He was all in his bag during the second half rally.
A’Tavian Butler 6’2″ McCluer North: The athletic wing player was a dominant force in the paint as he scored a team-high 27 points and gobbled up a bunch of rebounds in the process. He plays much bigger than his actual size because he is so explosive and relentless. He is a matchup problem because he can get the rebound and take it off the break and score on the drive, yet he can also score in the paint over bigger defenders.
Steve Lee 6’3″ McCluer North: The senior shooting guard scored 23 points and really got the Stars going with a couple of 3-pointers in the early part of the game. He is an excellent 3-point shooter who also displayed the ability to score off the drive to compliment his deep shooting. He provides and great compliment to North’s stellar athletic duo of Butler and Patrick Evans, who are slashing wings because he can space the floor. Lee is also a willing defender who will get in a stance.
Elijah Hicks 6’3″ Jennings: The beefy wing scored a game-high 19 points in the Warriors’ victory over Ladue. He is a matchup problem with his ability to handle the ball and start the offense from the perimeter combined with his physical strength and ability to score in the post. He plays through contact easily to get to his spots on the floor and he can finish well in traffic.
