Granite City Classic: The Top Underclassmen Performers

Most often varsity basketball is a veteran players game. But not always. These are the underclassmen we saw play we in St. Cloud on Saturday!

Jordan Boysen of Forest Lake. Jordan is about a 6-foot-6 frontcourt player that comes off the Forest Lake bench and works. Has a good base, does a good job using his length to give targets or distract, and plays with a regular knee bend on all parts of the floor.

Chase Carter of Maranatha Christian. You’ve heard of Randy Carter, the former Gopher who had a great overseas career and who coaches at Minnehaha Academy. Chase is Randy’s 6-foot-3 skilled freshman son who scored 15 today.

Isiah Davis of Apple Valley. Davis continues to fight his way up from the JV to varsity minutes. Davis is a 6-foot-3 sophomore wing who played a ton of second half minutes for the Eagles in their late surge to crush Sauk Rapids-Rice. Isiah raced down several defensive boards quickly pushing the ball. Totaled seven points and eight boards.

Thomas Diew of St. Cloud Apollo. Thomas is a 6-foot-6 freshman with the type of build that loos like it could add a few more inches and a lot of good weight in the upper body (wide shoulders). Diew came off the bench to hit a three, score inside, and fight against the talented Washington size as well as any big could.

Michael Foster of Milwaukee Washington. The 6-foot-9 five-star sophomore dominated the low block catching where he wanted to and making his post turn on balance to finish. Foster made 11 of 21 of his field goals and five of those scores were dunks. And half those dunks were in the open court as Foster ran the floor ahead of all of his opponents resulting in highlight completions. In addition, Michael did a great job of letting the Apollo size turn where they wanted to but always keeping his length grounded into a hot contest or shot block. The Apollo combined to shoot 4 of 15 against Foster and two of those were jumpers.

Marquise Gray of Milwaukee Washington. A 5-foot-9 sophomore guard that came off the bench and flew to the rim vs Apollo for three second half baskets. It wasn’t just the speed to the rim that impressed by also the crafty touch completing plays.

Trey Longstreet of Delano. Trey has stepped into a scoring role nicely this year giving the Tigers 14 points a contest. This Saturday morning game wasn’t his best (no field goals) but Trey was at the foul line making shots consistently and grabbed six boards.

Majay Murphy of Robbinsdale Cooper. Majay scored ten for the Hawks making three long jumpers two of which were from the arc. Murphy is a 5-foot-11 guard that was aggressive with his offense against the top team in state.
