North Dakota Class B Games to Watch January 2-5
The new year means most teams will be getting into the nitty gritty of conference play. The holidays are over and with them, weird schedules. Now normalcy for the foreseeable future. Normal in North Dakota means good basketball practically every night.
Here are some of the top games on the schedule this week:
Bishop Ryan at TGU – Thursday, Jan. 3
Region 6 is shaping up to be an absolute gauntlet and one of the challengers gets to host the favorite Thursday at Bishop Ryan heads to Towner to face TGU. The Lions have one of the best guard tandems in the state and play terrific defense though they are still figuring out some things regarding their complementary players. TGU’s only loss was against Rugby – another contender out of Region 6 – but the Titans have been otherwise very impressive to start the year. This is a good test for them.
Des Lacs Burlington vs. Rugby – Thursday, Jan. 3
Another Region 6 showdown as Rugby heads to Des Lacs for a matchup with the Lakers. Rugby’s looked like a top five team in Class B early in the year and has several good wins. So this is a good test for both teams as they try to figure out how the balance of power rests in Region 6.
Hillsboro/Central Valley vs. Thompson – Friday, Jan. 4
The two contenders in Region 2 square off as the Burros host the Tommies. Both teams are legitimate top-five caliber clubs in Class B and while this game is just likely a preview of one with much larger implications in March, it’s one where the outcome will be scrutinized for the rest of the season. Carson Henningsgard is one of the best players in the state while the Tommies have an elite frontcourt pairing with Hayden Overby and Chance Danner.
