Prospect Update: Nick Reid (2020)

After dropping 57 points in a game last weekend, Central City 6-foot-5 wing Nick Reid had re-written the Wildcats’ record books.

That 57 point performance was impressive, and he’s been just that all season. Through five games, he’s leading the state, averaging 35.8 points per game.

Reid played with the Iowa Barnstormers 16U this past spring and summer, and says playing with the organization helped his game tremendously.

“Playing with the Barnstormers this summer helped a lot. I was a shooter last year and decent driving, but now I feel like I’m better at both of those, and I’ve taken those skills to the next level,” said Reid.

“My mid-range has gotten better, my pull-up, everything has gotten better since playing AAU this summer.”

The 57 points against Midland, Wyoming was a school record, previously it had been 56 points. Reid broke that on a technical foul free-throw with a minute left in the game.

“My teammates have been doing a good job of finding me whenever I’m open,” said Reid. “The Midland game, I didn’t score in the first five minutes, and then I took off from there.”

Since he’s been torching opponents this season, Reid has started to see his recruitment pick up. He’s got all kinds of interest, D1, D2, D3 and NAIA.

He’s going to D2 Emporia State for a visit on Feb. 2, “I’ve been talking a lot to their coach lately,” said Reid. He also mentioned D2s Wayne State, Upper Iowa and Truman State have been keeping tabs on him.

The Citadel is a D1 who’s aware of Reid. He talked on the phone with a member of their staff for 30 minutes, “that was the first D1 for me,” said Reid.

“And then a lot of other NAIA and D3 attention.”
