But Devon was also the biggest guy on his team and that team battled together to earn a state berth.
“My senior season was great and I had a lot of fun,” Devon said. “The thing I’ll remember the most is making it back to the state tournament coming from an extremely tough region.”
Tough region? Without a doubt. Winner went through Todd County, knocked out the one seed Red Cloud, and then beat Little Wound. A tremendous accomplishment.
Along the way Devon averaged 17 points and nine rebounds a contest. Leiferman was asked to take a lot of shots because he was one of a few that could create space to shot and even though he took 15-16 shots a night Devon still made 44 percent of his field goals and 65 percent of his free throws.
“This year I definitely grew more as a scorer and attacking a lot more” Leiferman explained. “I became more of a leader. I need to continue to attack and use my length as a guard to my advantage. Also I need to continue to work on my outside shooting.”
Devon is a top 12 level recruit in a solid 2016 class of South Dakota players and right now he’s looking at two schools while open to other that may show interest.
“I’m still unsure where I will go to college but I’m thinking maybe Dakota Wesleyan or Black Hills State,” said Devon. “I’ve already visited DWU. And I’m still waiting on offers to decide.”
