Prospect Spotlight: Leo Colimerio (2020)

From Brazil to Utah, 6-foot-6 forward Leo Colimerio has become one of the state’s best prospects.

It was a dream for him to come to the United States and play, and now, it’s a dream of his to play college ball here as well.

“When I was young, it was my dream to play high school here, and then maybe college after that. I feel blessed to play high school here and in two years I think I’ll play college,” Colimerio said.  

Just a rising junior, the Brazilian has plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize. Right now, it’s Seattle, BYU, Utah, Oregon State, Utah Valley that have been showing some early interest.

“I played pick-up at BYU and the coach told me he liked my game, the other schools they all text me,” said Colimerio.  

A big, slashing forward, Colimerio is a guy who has no trouble getting to the rim. It’s his jumper he’s now working to improve.

“My best game is driving to the hole and finding my teammates, my game is aggressive,” he said. “I’m not much of a shooter, I’m practicing a lot on my shot this offseason.”

With Wasatch Academy as a sophomore, there was a lot to learn,  but Colimerio says he’s fortunate to have landed with the Tigers.

“It was my first year being in America and I learned a lot; new friends, new language, new style of basketball. It’s a lot different in Brazil then here,” said Colimerio.

“I feel blessed because I’m playing at one of the top schools in the country.”

Ahead of his junior season, Colimerio will be playing with Mountain Stars 16U. He’s hoping to see a spike in his recruitment then.

“This offseason, I’m working out a lot with my shot, and I’m working out to hopefully get some offers this summer,” Colimerio said.

“My dream school is UCLA, and I’d like to go to a bigger school. I hope by this summer I can get offers, and I hope next summer I can get some bigger schools.”
