PHD Playoff Central: Wednesday (SD)
NHR Playoff Central. Oh it was a night of eye-catching results!
Class AA. Roosevelt announced themselves as a state threat beating Watertown 44-37 and holding players not named Nate Davis to 13 points on 5 of 27 shooting (Davis had 24 of the Watertown 37). Roosevelt was led by 13 from Christophe Bwanya and ten from Alex Fiegen.
The big upset was Mitchell giving Huron their four loss of the season and now either Huron or Abdereen Central won’t even make the Region Qualifier (that survival game is Friday). Connor Morgan gave Mitchell 19 points making 9 of 10 foul shots and the normal Huron depth just didn’t give what they normally do.
Class A. Looks like I read the schedule wrong yesterday as the Region 4A games are tomorrow night. Three other regions played and there were no surprises.
Class B. Highmore-Harrold controlled Sully Buttes in the 3/2 game of Region 4 via a score of 68-54. James Valley Christian beat Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in a 77-76 classic that made you hope nobody could lose.
The Big Stage. Tomorrow that will likely be Groton High where Sisseton/Britton-Hecla is followed by Groton Area/Aberdeen Roncalli. A March double-header is the best kind of entertainment.
Name to Watch. Connor Henze of Elk Point Jefferson, a big and agile power forward, his team needs a nice effort from him around the basket against a smaller but more talented Tea Area squad. Tea Area won the game two weeks ago buy 21 so EPJ has a lot of ground to make up.
Upset City. Mitchell lost to Huron 72-38 less than a month ago! Turing that around and winning in the playoffs is the very definition of March Madness. So if the Kernels can take down Huron, what about Pierre on Friday? Anything is possible although the Governors looked good beating Central by eight.
Hat Tip to the Career. Brady Tiede had 28 points and nine rebounds in his last game but he and his teammates were one point short of the win they needed. It was an excellent game and Brady played well but they came up just short.
