Team 1 Evaluation: Wisconsin Sophomore ID Camp

A ton of talent from the Sophomore class was in the gym over Labor Day weekend. Let's break down team one's roster and the players that stood out during this event at the Champions' Center in Appleton.    Anderson played with a good amount of energy on both ends of the floor during the Sophomore ID Camp. The five-foot-nine lead guard has an ability to move defenders on the ball with his tight handle, especially his quick crossover move. After he is able to get by his defender, Anderson has a good finishing footwork, as he showcased this with an impressive high glass finish in the 5 on 5 sessions during the event.     Sugars out of St. Cat's was relentless in his pursuit to get downhill in 5 on 5 evaluation games. Korben oftentimes found himself getting directly to the rim by reading closeouts effectively, or using his quick first step out of triple threat. Despite being a bit undersized, Sugars finishes aggressively at the cup, embracing contact. When Korben was not attacking with the ball, he was able to find opportunities to cut on baseline and middle drives to find offensive opportunities.     Wilkerson had some solid moments in Appleton over Labor Day Weekend. The five-foot-five guard out of Racine Case, is a quick lead guard with a decisive first step going to the basket. Lashan is a talented ball handler and found his way to the paint frequently because of this during the event. Wilkerson understands floor spacing in transition, running wide up the sidelines and looks for his teammates by making the extra pass to help impact winning for the team.     Cosey was an impact player on both ends of the floor during the Sophomore ID camp at the Champions' Center. Many times throughout the afternoon, I witnessed Blake using his hands to get his hands on the basketball on defense. Cosey is relentless with his energy and hustle, making it quite the challenge to score on him. On the offensive end, Cosey is a flash of quickness, using his decision making to get to the paint and finish, or draw contact.     Phillips was one of the better shooting sophomores at the event over the holiday weekend. Mason is shot ready at all times on offense getting his feet ready, his hands loaded, and has the ability to get the ball up very quickly on his three point jumper. In the games I was able to view, Phillips was extremely consistent using his shot mechanics to drain triples from way downtown, especially from the corners where he was automatic. Phillips is a smart off the ball offensive player not only with his shooting, but his instincts to cut and finish at the rim, a skill that some players in today's game lack.     Fischer was extremely impressive during this event, and was all-around the best player on team one in the evaluation games. Jackson is a true three level scorer with his outstanding shooting range, ability to rise up and hit 1-2 pull-up jumpers, and was one of the better athletes finishing at the rim. He had two powerful dunks in the games I watched dunking in traffic and in transition elevating well above the rim. From the perimeter, Jackson is a left-handed sniper, with good form and good rotation on the ball. When defenders start to adjust to these two levels of scoring, Fischer is able to pull up on a dime to convert sweet mid range jumpers. Combine his three level scoring with good vision and passing, and Fischer is pretty unguardable with his size. A fast riser in the 2029 class, do not be surprised if Fischer makes a big impact down the road with his skill set set and raw intangibles.     Birmingham has great feet on the perimeter and on the interior for a player of his age. In the evaluation 5 on 5 games, Kyle was able to use his feet to convert on a step-through finish and an impressive spin move to pull up from mid range. In addition to his offensive skills, Birmingham was a physical defender and hustler on the defensive glass.     Eisenberg is a crafty, shifty, and skilled left-handed prospect in the 2029 class that impressed me during the 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 portions of the day. Reid shot the ball very well throughout the day especially in the 3 on 3 sessions draining step-back 3s, pull-ups in transition and converting catch and shoot opportunities in the half court. Eisenberg impressed me with his overall feel for the game cutting off the ball and holding space in the corners, especially when his teammates got to the basket. A high effort defender on the ball as well, Reid was able to generate some deflections and steals to make things difficult for opposing offenses. Eisenberg could find his way into the rankings in the 2029 class if he can continue to develop his strength and gain more experience at Kaukauna.     Christian was a grinder on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor during the Sophomore ID Camp. A relentless rebounder, Christian was able to tip and secure o-boards, and start the transition break by pulling down defensive rebounds. Charles ran the floor hard, rim to run, to convert on some easy layups. A quick first step in the half court, Christian was an effective slasher as well.
