Tuesday Night Rundown
- Yankton upset number one Washington 75-70 as undersized senior big Bradey Sorenson went off for 31 points with Blake Savey scoring 15 and 7th grader, yes SEVENTH GRADER Matt Mors scoring 15. Mors is a 6-foot-4 big as I know you were wondering.
- Washington had to mount a spirited comeback to beat Roosevelt in the second half last week and with Sam Siganos out again they didn’t have it in them to make another comeback.
- So who is number one? When the next polls come out right after Christmas, we will be moving Watertown to that top spot. They beat Aberdeen Central last night by eight when you combine an undefeated record with that win over O’Gorman, it’s an easy choice. And with that, Nate Davis looks better in all ways when it comes to top player status.
- Roosevelt got a much needed win last night beating Brandon Valley as Tristan Teichmeier totaled 18 rebounds and 13 points.
- You can scratch another PHD number one from the top. Just hours after we made Langford Area the number one in class B, they were beaten 43-30 by 5th ranked Potter County. That means top five teams Potter County and Canistota have knocked off number one teams this year already.
- So who should be number one? Warner? White River? Or Canistota? Tough call to make. Can’t be Potter Country though, they lost the night before they beat Langford (Warner got them). I would say Warner or Canistota.
- We left off Vermillion in our Class A rankings last night and sure enough they make another statement beating Tri Valley by a point.
- Dakota Valley contained everything around Noah Vettrus limiting him to 24, beating West Central 58-51 and they had four guys with eight or more led by John Prochello’s 15 in a big win.
Three Up/Three Down
Up
- Huron. Watertown will get their due. Huron is 4-1 and deserves some mention too. They took the soon to be number one team to the final moment in the opener and after losing to Watertown, Huron has won four straight. They’ve won four straight and we think they could get seven or eight straight with their balance.
- Aberdeen Roncalli. But, but, but they lost all of the top guys! No way can they be very good! We didn’t buy that hype. This is a good program with good players and not only are they 3-0, all of these new players have won come through in the clutch winning the three games by a combined 11 points. That’s stepping up early in some young careers.
- De Smet. Grabbed a name for themselves beating Wolsey-Wessington by 13 in the opening game of the season and came through with a six point win over Colman-Egan last night. Excellent 3-0 start.
Down
- Brookings. We thought about them being a top ten team and they are winless after three games. Sure all the games are ten points or less but this team expected better than this. They have a chance to turn things around but 0-3 hurts.
- Lennox. The schedule to start the year was tough with SF Christian, Vermillion, and Madison, no doubt. But this team was at state last year and brought a lot back. Winning at least one of those three was expected, but it didn’t happen and in the final minutes of those games, the game was pretty much over.
- Lead-Deadwood. Sure they lost just about everything from last year so the 0-2 start was expected but losing by 28 and 45 points in games they would be expected to compete a bit better in is a little surprising.
Happy Holidays
And in the spirit of the holidays I have four things in mind: 1) Family, 2) Food, 3) Watching/Scouting some recent games online, and 4) Watching Holiday movies. Here are my personal favorite top ten Christmas movies. Happy Holidays everyone.
- Christmas Vacation. It’s not even close
- Home Alone. Without a doubt.
- Die Hard 2. Of course it counts, Xmas stuff all over
- Surviving Christmas. Best bad Christmas movie ever
- Elf. Love when he drills kids with snowballs.
- Scrooged. Bill Murray rocks.
- Santa Clause 2. I like the magic, what can I say
- Polar Express. Good stuff to watch with the kids.
- Santa Clause. I’m soft around the holidays.
- Deck the Halls. When I buy a bigger house, it will look like the one in this show.
