16U Heart of America Hoopfest Takeaways: Names to Know

The 16U division in Overland Park, Kansas was loaded with talent this weekend, and several players separated themselves with standout performances on both ends of the floor. Each prospect brought a unique skill set that consistently caught the attention of spectators throughout the event. Here's a closer look at the players who made the biggest impact and why their performances had people talking.    Wieneke is a smooth athlete that looks to get out and attack in transition for his [program_tooltip program_id='2962972' first='Kruse' last='Elite'] Basketball Academy team. Troy creates foul opportunities and was an exceptional free throw shooter on Saturday. He is an athletic finisher around the rim and has long arms for his age. Along with his ability in transition, he also showed us that he can shoot from both beyond the arc and in the mid-range. Wieneke possesses a one dribble step back jumper going to his left that he likes to use to shoot over perimeter defenders.     Ray was crucial in extending the lead for Team Ramey in the second half against [program_tooltip program_id='2962972' first='Kruse' last='Elite'] on Saturday. He is a knock down shooter from distance who arguably had the quickest and most efficient release at the event in the 16U division. Harrison also showed us an ability to attack closeouts when opponents began to close out hard to his outside shot. Ray used his length to finish at the rim and had a couple nice contested layups go down for him.     Triston was the unquestioned leader for Team Ramey who has been the best team in the 16U division so far. His ball handling and shooting can provide instant offense quickly. He love to play in an "up and down" game in which he can use his athletic creativity and basketball IQ to both score and setup teammates in the open floor.     Mackland does a phenomenal job of controlling games and playing at different tempos. The Treynor (Iowa) standout routinely stuffed the stat sheet over the weekend. In a win over Misfitz, Cade piled up an incredible stat line. He poured in 17 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. It was his play that helped his team race out to a fast start and get some separation. Cade plays under control and never seems to get sped up offensively.     Vossah was also a big part of victory for his Factory squad against Misfitz. He provided 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Preston can handle the ball well while also playing in the mid-post. He is a very good passer that sees plays open up before they develop. He loves to drive to his right and utilizes a quick, efficient spin move often. Preston can guard 1-5 and provides defensive versatility thanks to his physical strength. Vossah is also an exceptional cutter and showcased his ability to finish inside.     Allen was key in the comeback against Team Factory. While his team fell short at the end, it was his play that sparked a rally in the second half. After an injury, he was forced to play the entire game and really stepped up for his squad. Allen was one of the best shooters in his division and showed consistent touch and arc on his 3-point shot. Vashon is also a very good athlete that commits to offensive rebounding.
