It needed two overtimes and it went from some big time three pointers to a few missed free throws that determined the end of this game. Kobe Webster started the game off with 9 points on 3/3 shooting from three to start the game and then stepped up again at the end to help win it for Park Tudor (7-0) over Hamilton Southeastern (5-2), 57-53.
Park Tudor:
Isiah Moore
5’9 – PG – 2019
Moore wasn’t as good as he was in the first game I watched this season but not too bad. He falls into a perimeter shooter role right now with Webster taking control of the team. It’s not a bad spot for Moore as he can shoot pretty well. He went 3/10 in this one though, shooting 2/8 from three. He’s going to get more of a role as this team gels together because he’s a pretty solid dribble-drive guy. Might take some time, though.- 8 points, 2 reb
Kobe Webster
5’10 – PG – 2017
This might be the best game I’ve seen from Kobe yet. The only knock would be that he didn’t do much from the 2nd quarter to the start of the 4th. Other than that, he was excellent making some big shots and taking control of a team that ended up losing Jaren Jackson in the later part of the game. He’s locked in shooting the ball right now. He hit 6/11 from behind the arc and some coming from a few feet behind. He had trouble penetrating all the way to the rim, give Noah Smith some credit, but he hit a tough pull-up in this one from the free throw line following a big three. He’s taken the role of a scoring point guard well and tonight was a bit of a breakthrough. – 23 points, 3 reb
Isaiah Rice
5’11 – PG – 2017
Rice was a key guy down the stretch due to his free throw shooting. He’s a guy that Park Tudor has started to give them another ball handler on the floor but he hasn’t been as big of a scoring factor. Tonight, you could argue that he won them the game making 7/10 from the line, most coming late, late in the game. Rice is a capable point guard prospect with a lot of room to grow. He’s got to improve his court awareness but ball handling is solid and he can penetrate a bit.- 9 points, 3 reb, 2 ast
Jaren Jackson Jr.
6’10 – PF – 2017
Jarent is having trouble dealing with fouls this year. In the two games I’ve seen in the last 10 days, he’s really gotten into big foul trouble early and it has taken him out of the game. However, when he is on the floor he’s extremely effecient. He had 12 points tonight on 5 shots going 4/5 from the field. He also was big in the post when Zach Gunn would try to drive from the perimeter. He blocked 4 shots on Gunn alone and really made life difficult for him. Jackson changes the game when he’s on the floor, just want to see him on the floor more. – 12 points, 6 reb, 5 blk
Hamilton Southeastern:
Conner Rotterman
6’1 – CG – 2017
Best game I’ve seen from Rotterman in the high school setting. He got the start tonight which surprised but he showed a lot of the reasons why he should tonight. He’s a scrappy guy that makes plays. He’s not a big time scorer and he knows that but he made the biggest play of the game hitting a three at the buzzer to send it into the first overtime. He can defend pretty well and handles the ball good enough to take pressure off the lead guard. He rebounds well and can fill a role. – 3 points, 2 reb
Noah Smith
6’0 – PG – 2019
Noah Smith might have changed my mind on him tonight. I’ve seen him play a few times but wasn’t sure what his defining quality was going to be. After tonight, it might be his defense. He was really good defending Park Tudor’s guards, especially Webster. Kobe had a big game but he would have had a lot more if Smith wouldn’t have slowed him down driving to the rim. He got at least 5 steals tonight (I might have missed one or two) and was quick to turn them into transition points. He has good lateral quickness and can backpedal pretty well which was key in stopping penetration into the paint tonight. – 8 points, 5 stl
Zach Gunn
6’7 – PF – 2017
Gunn had a big game, there is no doubt in that but it really wasn’t as efficient as he would have liked. Contribute part of that problem to Jackson who had 4 blocks on him, all coming on drives in the paint. Gunn I think got frustrated early with that and started shooting more from the arc and moving back toward the volleyball line. He took 46% of his teams shots tonight, probably par for the course on the season. He’ll have to learn to become a bit more efficient at the next level because he won’t get that many shots. With that said, he looks likes he is down in weight and moves so much better. His creativity on his drives usually pays off but he had a high-end post player to deal with in Jackson. – 30 points, 12 reb
