About Julius

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My name is Julius “JuJu” Manson Jr., a junior at East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. I have demonstrated consistent academic growth and am committed to raising my GPA to earn the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. As a shooting guard, I am a reliable perimeter shooter with strong efficiency from the corners. I take pride in valuing each possession, maintaining a low turnover rate,

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I approach the game with a team-first mindset and a focus on consistency. I stay composed under pressure, communicate clearly, and look to make the right play whether that’s scoring, creating opportunities, or locking in on defense. As a leader, I try to set the tone with effort and accountability, keeping myself and my teammates focused and motivated throughout the game.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through basketball, I’ve developed strong leadership and teamwork skills by learning how to communicate effectively and stay connected with my teammates on and off the court. I understand the importance of trusting others, playing my role, and putting the team first. I’ve also built discipline, accountability, and the ability to stay focused under pressure.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One of my biggest challenges was coming off the bench as a freshman and earning a starting position. It pushed me to stay patient, work consistently, and prove myself every day in practice and games. I focused on improving my skills, learning the system, and bringing energy whenever I got minutes. Over time, that effort helped me gain my coaches’ trust and grow into a starting role in high school.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that offers a competitive basketball program and a supportive team environment where I can continue to grow as a player and a leader. Academically, I want a school that challenges me and provides strong opportunities in my area of interest. Overall, I’m looking for a place where I can develop both on and off the court and be part of a close, motivated community.
