Payne put together a true big man performance, showcasing his impact on both ends of the floor. He has good size and soft touch in the lane, consistently putting pressure on interior defenders and shot blockers. One of his most valuable traits is his natural ability to draw fouls and get to the line, where he converts at a high rate an underrated skill that will only become more important as he develops. On the defensive end, he attacks the glass with intensity, ripping down rebounds and limiting opponents to one shot. He plays with physicality and doesn’t shy away from contact in the paint. Overall, Payne is a high upside prospect who can be a key piece moving forward.
