November 17, 2015

Though he’s our 6th-ranked 2016, but Valley guard Carlo Marble - fresh off the heels of a state semifinal run with the football team - is now considering football in college.

He currently holds no offers in either sport -- he had a Central Michigan offer revoked after a different player committed before him -- but says Division I interest has been coming in for each, especially football.

“All those schools are still coming after me for basketball (Drake, Iowa, Western Illinois, Toledo, Ball State). I’ve heard a lot for football though, and it’s something I’m considering,” said Marble.

Kansas, Buffalo, Purdue, Bowling Green, and Michigan State are programs reaching out to the springy wide-receiver. And he’ll be playing in the River Battle Bowl on Nov. 28th in Omaha, where he says he hopes to get more looks there.

Of course, basketball is still a distinct option for the top-talent too, and he says it really depends on the specific program that would offer, more than the particular sport.

“I really don’t know right now (which I prefer), it depends most on what program offers me, the academics, and just how I would fit in,” said Marble.

Before he was torching opponents on the gridiron this fall, Marble was traveling with Minnesota-based national grassroots power Howard Pulley.

“It was kind of like playing in a Division I setting, all of those guys have Division I offers and the coach has coached a lot of Division I athletes, that’s the biggest thing I got out of it,” said Marble, who will rejoin the Valley Tigers after spending last season playing in Michigan.

“I really improved more on my shot than anything this summer. And with Valley I’m going to have to get to the basket and finish, create shots for other people, create my own shots, play defense, really do it all,” said Marble.

He added: "I’d really like to continue to improve my ability to rebound the ball and take it coast-to-coast and finish.”

The Tigers already had one of the top returning lineups in the state after last season, and the re-addition of Marble makes then even stronger.

“I played football with a lot of the guys, and I’ve played AAU with them in the past so we have good team chemistry,” said Marble. “We have a lot of leaders on the team, a lot of veterans, so I think that will help us a lot.”

June 8, 2015

After a brief hiatus from Iowa high school hoops, Carlo Marble is back with his original school, West Des Moines Valley.

Marble spent one season in Michigan, where he was living in Lansing with his father Roy, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last August.

“My dad had to come back down here and get his chemo and stuff all together, everything’s still based around my dad,” said Marble, who was able to pick up his first Divison I offer while in Michigan.

“Right now I only have one offer from CMU (Central Michigan), but I’m getting some looks from, Iowa, Western Illinois, Toledo, Ball State, Drake, so hopefully I get some offers from those guys.”

The 6-foot-5 prospect says he’s being recruited as a shooting guard and small forward combo, and that there are certain schools pursuing him the most of late.

“Right now Drake is coming really heavy, and I’ve heard some from Iowa, and Ball State is starting to come up now,” he said.

During his year in Michigan, Marble played football and basketball at Sexton High School in Lansing.

“My job on that team was to score and to be a facilitator, and to be an all-around player,” said Marble. “It was a good season up there, I got a few looks up there so it was really good.”

Currently playing with EYBL program and Minnesota-based Howard Pulley on the 17U circuit, Marble says he’s not focusing on any particular skill-set this offseason, but rather his all-around game.

“I’ve been working on my pull-up, and spot-up game, and getting to the basket and finishing, basically everything, some ball-handling too,” he said. “My role between teams (Valley, Howard Pulley) really doesn’t change.”

Upon his return to the already-stacked Tigers, he’ll rejoin 2016 point guard Turner Scott, 2017 forward Quinton Curry, and emerging 2017 big-man Charlie Crowley -- a team that will undoubtedly be on a short list of favorites to win a state tournament.

“We always talk about next season, but we're really taking it day-by-day and getting our team chemistry up and everything,” said Marble. “And hopefully it will transfer over to the real season.”

In the meantime, the coveted prospect has a big July ahead of him of the EYBL circuit, and plans to turn some heads in the process.

“I expect it to be real great,” he said. “I’ve been having workouts everyday since I got back to Iowa, really I’m looking to get some more offers, that’s what I’m really looking to do.”
