Spring Spotlight: Vallivue’s Amoro Lado Using Spring Season To Gear Up For Big Senior Year
Vallivue’s dynamic Amoro Lado will enter his senior season with a very hopeful mindset and following an excellent junior season, he has every right to be.
Lado was a force for the Falcons last season in which the team made the state tournament for a second consecutive season and in large part due to the play of Lado. So much so, that Lado was recently named the Boys Basketball Athlete of the Year by the Idaho Press Tribune.
Another reminder for all that Lado is one of the top players in the entire state. Last season, Lado led the Falcons in four different statistical categories (points, rebounds, assists and blocks). He was a 4A SIC first team selection and scored the fourth most points in a single season at Vallivue with 449. Lado averaged 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and will look to boost those totals next season as a team leader in his senior year role.
Prep Hoops Idaho caught up with Lado and he talked about his junior year, “I think I had a good and successful season. I accomplished my goals that I set before the season started (First Team All 4A SIC , All-State Selection, IPT POY) and played good basketball from beginning to end.”
Lado certainly did play well the entire season. His team went 16-11 in the tough 4A SIC, but Lado seemed to step up each and every time he was needed throughout the year and in the biggest moments.
As we make our way through the Spring, Lado isn’t slowing up on preparing for his big season ahead and is taking advantage of any and all opportunities to polish his growing game. “I’m going to play AAU attending a couple tournaments this Spring circuit. I am good friends with a couple professionals from around this area that I have been working out with and will continue to workout till next season and over the summer.”
Having professional development and mentorship will be huge for the evolution of Lado’s game, and if he wants to play at the division I level, like he has mentioned in previous comments (UNLV and San Diego State are two of Lado’s preferred destinations following his prep career), he will need to keep up the hard work that he’s put in so far.
It is the intricacies in which a player as skilled as Lado can make real headway. By the sounds of it, Lado has a great focus on what he looks to improve upon this Spring. “This Spring I am focusing on ball screen reads, picking my spots to get my shot off, shoot off the dribble, strength and conditioning, and also my over all athleticism to transform my self into the player I wanna be,” Lado concluded.
Lado will be a focal point for the Falcons next season as they will look to make it three straight trips to the state tournament. PHID is looking forward to the continued evolution of this prime time prospect. Stay tuned!
