Brookings teammates Zach Treiber and Isaac Brandt played together for the Dakota Niners this off-season and we thought the two made a nice pair on a team that surprised some people having a better year than at first expected.
For Treiber his four weekends with the Niners were a part of a summer that was all about advancements of his game.
“I felt like my summer of training went very well,” Zach said. “I focused on my strength and quickness a lot to make me better as a player for the season. I feel like playing as a Niner again also helped because the competition we played against was so good.
“Playing so much this summer helped me realize what I need to work on and what are my strengths and weaknesses as a player and that's how this summer of basketball helped me grow as a player. It all helped me learned what I need to focus on and how I need to play to be the best player I can be.”
Brookings returns three starters and has some really nice juniors ready to step into graduated roles. A big year is expected.
“I am very excited for this season. We have players who have seen varsity time in the past and I feel we will have a very successful season. I think the biggest challenge will be for people to accept roles and coming together as a unit that plays together. Once we can do those things we can become a very well built team.”
Treiber isn’t hearing from schools much yet as a 5-foot-9 point guard but considering what he did this summer PHD thinks he will have a big year and grab some local college attention over the winter.
