Reigning State Champions Hillsboro and State Runners-Up Battle Ground Academy headline Friday's slate. Pope John Paul II hosts the event at the Hendersonville campus.

[player_tooltip player_id='2631817' first='Lawson' last='Lee'] (Battle Ground Academy) hit a beautiful wing three-pointer on Donelson Christian Academy to start the season and about 300 D1 programs realized they made a mistake not recruiting or offering him earlier. Former Lipscomb University Head Coach Lennie Acuff signed Lawson this month to Samford University, which will turn out to be a foundational piece to Coach Lennie's Samford era.

Lee was a target of Coach Acuff and his staff when they held the Lipscomb University job and immediately upon the coaching hire in Birmingham Coach Acuff extended an offer to a player, who frankly, had done very little at the high school varsity level to justify an offer.

It was a brilliant bit of foresight and also a reflection of the sterling AAU dominance displayed by [player_tooltip player_id='2631817' first='Lawson' last='Lee'] all summer with Pro One (AL).

Fans can see Lawson compete at 1:30 PM both Friday and Saturday and decide for themselves if the dude is D1 ready.

"Tae" Shelton can bounce like a bunny. The center/forward stars for Shelbyville Central (5-1). The Golden Eagles will surpass their 15-win total from a year ago. They compete today and tomorrow at 10:30 AM. One challenge for Shelton will be Ezell-Harding's athletic forward [player_tooltip player_id='2299334' first='Zay' last='Bridges']. Bridges possesses slightly better mobility around the lane than Shelton, but nobody jumps higher than Shelton in Tennessee. Their individual battle Saturday morning will be worth the price of admission.

Saturday Gage Mayfield (Oklahoma signed) takes his Hale County Wildcats into conflict with Knoxville Catholic's Fighting Irish. [player_tooltip player_id='1959161' first='Cade' last='Murphy'] (Eastern Kentucky signee) and [player_tooltip player_id='2634289' first='Malachi' last='Brown'] (Michigan signee) are game for the challenge.

He is a lengthy wing who can score at all levels and has emerged as a prospect who excels at creating his own offense off the dribble and can consistently get to his spots and finish with confidence. His ability to create match-up problems with his size, length, and ball handling has been an area of his game that has many intrigued. - Terry Drake evaluation on Gage Mayfield

Mayfield took official visits to Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt before his commitment to Oklahoma University.

The best hooper coming from Alabama to the Southeast Showcase outside of Mayfield is Paul W. Bryant High forward Tyjavian Byrd, a 6-foot-8 junior.
